hiking in Cumbria

Feet sore, not walked in boots for a year.

Lovely scenery @professor
Yeah, I’m hearing you re the boots.
There will soften up again, or your feet will harden.
Either way, hopefully you can get a good few trek’s in before the weather turns too much.

thanks, I’ve worn sandals near exclusively for years their comfort means when need boots in rocky uneven dangerous surfaces means I’m suffering more in the feet than anywhere else. I’ll sleep tonight and if feet bad to tomorrow I’ll go home and let feet toughen.

Planning to go hike-camping in a couple of weeks once feet had more time to toughen. More weight on back with tent+sleeping is about 2Kg more.

I’ll make use of trekking poles as they help reduce lower body stress. I was very slow today descending steep slope as I’d only taken one stick, my bad.

Eurofighter Typhoon passed by, zoom in…

I’d like to thank Anker for making products which make these lightweight fast+light outdoors trips viable and enjoyable. This is what’s with me from Anker. I don’t have Soundcore as they don’t make good products for this lifestyle.

I need to wake with 3 ports for my tablet+phone+smart watch charged, I need a peak of 3 USBC for my Powercore+phone+tablet but have MicroB buds+flashlight hence why the 3-in-1 cable. It’s a shame that Anker hasn’t made a decent 3 or 4 port charger to merge the Mini+Nano two chargers which is as compact and lightweight as my current setup.

There is an old soldier trick to soften boots, but I will not tell. :joy:

There’s a local boot fitting shop, I won’t advertise, but you book an appointment, they measure you precisely, then recommend boots and they use a heated spike and steam to stretch the boots and custom inserts to make unique to each foot. I got hiking boots and shoes made for me 2 years ago.

Both my left and right feet have had broken ankle and toes, for different reasons, e.g. one of children kept a collection of tree fruits on the top of the stairs I hadn’t noticed and that’s the 2nd toe on my left foot reason for not being straight.

So my boots are as perfect possible - just with a broken leg and lockdowns my feet got soft. Just pain and sleep and then tougher.

Weather in England nice next days so just negotiated with B&B landlady for an extension, so more hill hiking photos for a few more days.

Never forget, the older you get some parts of men’s body is shrinking,
others are growing eg. feet and ears.
The shrinking ones we know.! :joy:

I hope the next hike is easier on the feet @professor

I’ve heard those stories Franz
Personally, hot water in a bowl does the trick for me, but i tend to buy synthetic now rather than leather.

synthetic cracks earlier, leather doesn’t if you apply dubbing so they die of the sole. I’ve gone back to leather after 3 synthetic boots leaked

I’ve had an odd surface crack in the Salomons I’ve bought over years but nothing that’s effected the GoreTex layer.
I tend to favour approach shoes/boots rather than walking shoes/boots. So normally the soles wear before the uppers as the sole compound is a little softer.

I am not such a “hiker”.
I have Salomons and I do impregnating from time to time with a spray.
Never got wet feet.
I was using some cheap no-name boots years before.
Rubbish, soles broke very quickly.
Never would buy those again.

I remember such leather boots are much heavier than those light weighted textiile ones.
I had such “Bergstiefel” : too heavy and too inflexible.

the area is used for military pilots training. Today

It is a large aircraft to have in such a small quiet area. I was biking once when two of them appeared overhead, nearly made me fall off.

That lake is man-made reservoir, and it looks like we need rain!

It depends on the context. If you’re walking in bolder fields where the foot can slip between rocks, you need a rigid boot that goes above the ankle bone.

Most times you don’t need anything like as rigid or heavy. Most people are not hiking among rocks.

My feet are not used to above-ankle boots, I am usually in very relaxed sandals. My feet are “singing” to me now of their complaints of being confined.

Another great set of photos, sky looks a bit bluer compared to the previous pics.
Especially like the boots and pint :+1:t2:
