Terrible news about the floods - I’ve just seen it on the news and can’t believe how bad it is - would never expect such rainfall there! It does worry me about the future and what we are doing to the planet and the future of anyone bringing up children!
Weekend activities! (old thread reanimated)
We got nice weather now.
So I could take a look what is “going around” in our small garden here.
Our “royal” plums (regina victoria) are getting red
(never will turn to blue, because they are royals)
There are some apples left (Maybe 5)
And there are such beautiful flowers.
And this rose is donated to you all here!
Enjoy the weekend and stay safe!
Franz
Really pretty pictures thanks for sharing. The weather here is nice now that the storm passed. Lots of abandoned cars on the road still. Guess a lot of towing needs to be done.
Looks like the garden I doing just great Franz
We have a 3 day weekend here in the US. What’s everyone doing this weekend?
Found funny rare things today.
Will take photos tomorrow.
I am sure you will like.
Now I am a little bit tired, starting at 5:00 and a after bike ride,
I was strolling around with my
Anker LC 40 torch.
Very important for me.
Tiny and strong.
Perfect to carry in the rucksack.
A little bit of summer is back here!
Hope it will stay til Christmas.
I’m also a fan of the LC40 - a “just right” product, size and charging simplicity.
I use it most often as a bedside lamp, put on it’s end, battery life is excellent on lowest brightness.
Put it in context. “News” is a for-profit activity to emphasise and so indirectly exaggerate reality to produce a mostly falsely overly-negative perception of reality. The 99.9% not flooded is not mentioned.
Flooding usually occurs in previously flooded areas and most of the new is repeat of old news, those impacted in most cases either knew of the risk and crossed fingers, or are trying to get money to cover their mistakes. Not everyone is like that, but my point is to dial-down from what new says and see there are some genuinely new and genuinely suffering, but not to the scale the news is trying to project.
Shared risk vs personal risk. Yes it is a fact that global warming is real, it is currently raising sea levels by mostly temperature thermal expansion, soon to accelerate as the mostly sea ice melting then allow lands ice melting and many places will be flooding more often. The increased air moisture holding causing local flash floods is likely to get headlines most initially. But yes, many here will need to move home in their lifetimes. Just learn physics and think where to live next with this in mind. Hint: go north, go high and don’t be in a valley.
I have just now rented out a property. I was up the ladder about to take down the sign and thought “don’t break your leg” and waiting til someone heavy walks past to keep the ladder still for the 2 mins with screwdriver.
I found to “target plates” ( I don’t know the English expression )
Both hand painted and not “shot”.
I suppose ca from 1900 and these are signed by the painter, who was a real professional one.
Normally these are decorated with deer or chamois and landscape.
Never with those funny children.
In the past I got some military ones, but I sold these, there is no “military need” in our house.
These are very funny and extraordinary.
I will do some restoring, so they will be perfect,.
Take a look:
The disks are made from from wooden planks.
Really funny finding.
I could not use the bike to bring them home safely, so I took the bus and sub.
People where looking curiously!
Old Franz and his special transport on public transfer.
When I was a student we did a whole moving using only the tramway.
Cupboard, bed, table, chairs, desk.
Was incredible funny but would not be possible in our days.
Great pieces there Franz
Really such a blue sky.
No “photopaint”!?
I am envious Paul!
Today we had the best weather since the start of our week off.
Blue says and blue green sea, it was great.
So the rest of the week?
We have been busy.
Theatre,
Cinema,
Lots of good food,
Lots of good beer,
Climbing,
Bug hunting,
Dino hunting,
And lots of other fun and games,
After this week I’m exhausted and looking forward to going back to work for a rest
Aha, very busy, thats great.
I was harvesting 1/2 of our “royal plums”
Working hard, as you all see! :
Next week I will go for the apples.
Could be 5.
We are all such hard workers, aren’t we?
The plums look nice Franz.
Will you eat those as they are or make them into a pie?
No. 1 is a great fish and chip shop.
Eat in or takeaway. As we went after the theatre we decided to eat in as it was a bit chilly outside.
I should do!
It’s so quick for us to get there, 25mins +/- so it’s a regular of ours.
I’d say most of the pics I post are from Cromer
I have not to decide!
Mrs. Franz was talking about creating some marmalade.
She bought other plums too.
I am not in such jobs.
No baker, no marmalade cooker!
Normally there is a shelf in basement full of self made jam/marmalade.
I dont eat, but of course these are much better than industrial products.
Less sugar no preservatives.
Always funny to read “preservatives” this means condoms in German as well.
