Samsung is very good in correcting themselves and have some really good products. They will fix this…
Galaxy Fold review units are failing
Let’s say they fixed it and had a real nice quality folding phone. How good it is to spend $2000 + on a phone/tablet??
Before iPhone, phones were in $50-200 range. After that we are in $500-1200 range now. Future may hold $2000 phones…
Will everyone buy that? Most likely NO
Samsung has forced iFixit through a partner to remove Fold teardown from website
https://ifixit.org/blog/16189/about-our-galaxy-fold-teardown/
iFixit’s response
After two days of intense public interest, iFixit has removed our teardown of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. That analysis supported our suspicions that the device provided insufficient protection from debris damaging the screen.
We were provided our Galaxy Fold unit by a trusted partner. Samsung has requested, through that partner, that iFixit remove its teardown. We are under no obligation to remove our analysis, legal or otherwise. But out of respect for this partner, whom we consider an ally in making devices more repairable, we are choosing to withdraw our story until we can purchase a Galaxy Fold at retail.
Our team appreciated the chance to look inside this ambitious device. All new products face challenges—this one perhaps more than most. We’re grateful to have shared a glimpse of how Samsung’s engineers addressed some of those challenges, and we look forward to sharing more as soon as possible.
Dang that really interesting shows how big the problem has grown to. Nice of ifixit to respect their wishes and take it down though
I’d agree that for every price there is a customer. I often do this math example:
Suppose if costs you $999 to manufacture a phone and you sell 1 million units at $1000. You made $1M profit.
Suppose instead you sold it for $2000 and only 1000 units got sold you still made $1M profit.
So the question is if your higher price puts off more customers than the profit you make. Our species history has consistently shown there is always someone stupid enough to do anything which can be imagined. So its quite possible that Samsung sell enough of this phone at $2000 to make a profit.
What this does is means those who pay for it, fund the research, and then a trickle down happens later.
By the way I got my $300 8.4" phone yesterday, working fine. It’s mostly for when I’m traveling away from home.
Absolutely correct analysis…
Lot of high end companies rely on same business strategy
Low volume + High margins = High profits
Louboutin, Patek Philippe, Channel, so on…
I better wait a few years before I get one. It’s a nice concept, however they still have a lot of things to work out
Oh come on, we can do better than that.
It will take a few years to work out the kinks, they’ll be bending over backwards, they will not give up, they will not fold, they will not be inflexible, they will open up to new ideas, be big to admit errors and…
(help please)
That’s how Unbox Therapy show up in the map with that video.
Patek Philippe is a fantastic high class watch manufacturer.
Their watches, though very expensive are beautiful.
I know another watch factory which will be fitting much better in your list.
RULEX!
I don’t own a Patek, I would like to.
I don’t own a RULEX, I wouldn’t like to.
I dont like Rolex watches. Too common for showing off wealth… Look at me, I have a Rolex!
I like Tag Heuer. They’re not so showy, but more subtle wealth.
You remember that James Bond: "Not Rulex, (sic) -> OMEGA!
Those are great watches too.
I own some old HEUER BW.
Not TAG HEUER, only HEUER.
Fantastic watches.
Hope you forgive me as I called you a “power bank”
But regarding those electric shocks you already got,
I had to call you this!
Really : YOU MUST BE ONE!!!
Enjoy the weekend, my friend!
Did you guys knew that all those super expensive brands only have a 2 years warranty? Well I just find out that by EU laws they are required to offer 5 years now. But before it use to be only 2 years
There are many EU laws,
Mostly these are really … (censored)
Regarding the world full of plastic waste.
What this “EUdSSR” is doin:. Forbidding plastic drinking straws.
That is much more than ridiculous… that is sad. UNABLE that “club of good payed clerks”.
BUT NO MORE POLITICS HERE!
If I think about, I need to take one more of my pills lowering blood pressure.!
I’m tired of hearing People defend Samsung on this. Samsung didn’t do enough thorough testing, and they got a product that breaks easily. It’s as simple as that, they deserve this whole situation.
I’m not saying other companies (Apple) haven’t done similar things, but even though they have, it still doesn’t justify what samsung did.
I just need to clarify that I am not saying that Apple is okay for having problems, because that’s an equally large problem.
Phone company’s (and tech companies in general) need to do enough testing to know that a product works proper before releasing it. Anker does a great job at this!
Samsung did the right thing here.
They sent out testing units, problems were found, they delayed mass production.
Apple, no beta testing, send out problem phones in the millions… Oh yeah, we knew that would happen! Just swap it, and hopefully new unit won’t do it again‽
Even the note 7 battery Samsung did the right thing.
Apple often sends out faulty units, and are like… Yeah, well give it a month, and we’ll send out an update.
I don’t think you can have a go at Samsung, over 2 problems, compared to the multiple apple have done, where they just blame the user.
The trouble with first line testers, is they don’t get rough with a unit, and don’t test to destruct. Now give it to second line testers, who most are apple lovers, and they will bend it, squeeze it, drop it, pull it, whateve, to see if they can break it… That’s what they do. This is when any real problems are discovered… Which is what’s happened. Now it’s getting resolved… Hopefully.
Now when they send out test units again, there shouldn’t be any problems… You’ll always get a couple where the item is abused beyond normal use, just to see if they can break it again. Hopefully this time it won’t break.
Until bendable glass appears, the fold will in certain light and certain angles still appear as a big crease.
Let’s just see what happens
I didn’t say what Apple has done in the past is okay. I’m just saying Samsung wasn’t right either
Be it Apple - they had fair share of mishaps, with Antenna gate, bendgate, latest being cancel of Airpower.
Samsung has been pretty consistent until now, but feel they should have tested more , waited to bring the phone to the consumers. Just because some other brand came first before Samsung, they were like forced to showcase fold model.
Being first always does not mean they are always the best. Being the first with no issues on product, is the real goal these brands need to do.
