Coming Soon to Kickstarter: Security Smart Parcel Box | The Future of Secure Deliveries

Eufy Security is preparing to launch its first smart parcel box, possibly called Smart Drop… Take a look!

Crowdfunding will begin on August 20, 2020, at 7:00 AM ET.

Here were a few design ideas from April:

Assembly

The user might have to assemble the smart parcel box themselves in order to save about $20 on shipping costs. This would likely take less than 30 minutes.

Installation Method

Four options were being considered, including:

  • Mount on the wall using screws
  • Mount on the floor using screws
  • Mount on a railing using a chain
  • Place on the floor without mounting

Battery Life

Although wired power was considered, a rechargeable device with six months of battery life seems more likely.

Data Storage

Three methods were being considered, including:

  • 4GB local storage on the smart parcel box
  • Local storage on HomeBase
  • Cloud storage with artificial intelligence for video analysis

Audible Notification

A sound would be activated anytime someone approaches to alert couriers of its existence (could be disabled).

Authentication

Five methods were being considered, including:

  • One-Button-Open without authorization
  • Authorized-Open requiring the user to grant access after being notified
  • One-Button-Open for the first use and Authorized-Open each time after
  • Users can customize the number of One-Button-Opens in a given day
  • Users provide the courier with a one-time valid access code during checkout to open the box

Note: One-Button-Open may require the person’s entire face to be in view and uncovered.

Collection

Four methods were being considered, including:

  • Open the box via your phone
  • Open the box via access code
  • Open the box via key
  • Open the box via NFC card

Crowdfunding, during COVID condition… not so good idea.

Whats happening with Nebula Cosmos?

This is a solution mostly for Homeowners for independent homes … would have liked Eufy to go into this venture without crowdfunding, eufy (Anker) has proved its product value and support background, and does not need these crowdfunding

Seems this makes sense for house owners only.
But when living in an apartment house
I am not sure you will get the allowance to install this
in the corridor.
But fits well for the US/UK market,. Not so for DE.

But would you stop everything because of COVID-19?

Of course, Not! Things will only be slower, and people need to accept it, with delays and more delays, cannot really help…

Before the Eufy product ships out… there will be a lot of copycats in the market … crowdfunding only makes it slow to capture the market,

Thanks for the update @Insider with cosmos

Thats an argument. :slightly_smiling_face:

But for example when using DHL here, I could arrange a “special secure place”
where they can leave the parcel.
Works perfectly.
Can be made online by using a DHL-account.
And there are so called “Paketstationen” offered,
where customers can rent a deposit box from DHL.

I agree with @Chiquinho, this is more suited for houses. I can’t see my apartment manager allowing these. At first glance, I thought it looked like a mini refrigerator or mini freezer. LOL.

This is something new to the market and yet to see if this will be a success. Hope eufy did the homework. Doesn’t look good if they fail at Kickstarter at this stage.

I like the idea! Keep others from stealing your food!

This thing won’t ship for a minimum of 12 months.

We can’t just stop society forever…

I think it’s a cool concept @Insider, but I definitely won’t be supporting Anker Innovations on Kickstarter anytime soon. They have had too many mishaps In the past for me to dump $500 or so into a project like this.

I like the idea of this, but it’s not cornering the market. Like others have brought out, this is for home owners. Apartments or townhouse most likely would not get to have this.

Also, with more and more “delivery lockers” like Whole Foods, UPS Stores, GNC etc, you can ship items to these places, at least for amazon, which is a huge portion of the delivery services.

For regular parcel and fedex/ups, this could help out, but again, apartments and townhomes are going to be neglected for features like this.

What if it did not require mounting? Would you still be interested? Could you install it then?

I would be interested, but I would also be very worried someone would test out that theory of not being securely mounted to something, and take off with it.

The box meant for securing items, will itself be carried away with secured items by thieves

There have been 3 Amazon Lockers / Hubs installed within out apartment community plus many more at wholefoods and Safeways… So don’t really see a huge demand… there will be targeted consumers

Exactly my thoughts since the apartment I live in, they don’t allow anything other than floor mats and trash cans (overnight)

For UPS, you can send it to an “Access Point Location” which basically means a UPS store near you for you to pick up later

Doesn’t amazon have something similar to this?

DHL : If the parcel can not be delivered the receiver can pic it up at a certain DHL place of business, nearby. Mine is 5 minutes to walk.
