Ditto, I only buy Amazon and deliver anything thicker than narrow letterbox package to the local Locker 5 mins away. Some items are too big for the locker so there’s another place 15 mins away where you show your barcode and it’s handed to you.

Sounds good but the FREE stuff from Ankerdirect is sent direct to home address. So the free stuff is the riskier to get lost…

There was never any loss here.
The only company which is awful is Herpes (sic).
Usual late delivery.
(But its not the fault of the poor workers who are doing their job till ca 21:00 often)

The others are perfect.
Announcement and delivery works fine and of course the fellows always get a tip.
(May be that’s the reason, there was never any loss )

I meant items just left on doorstep for hours and then gone problem, why I prefer locker / collect more than just a delivery.

Mac (very quiet now) had a similar problem, Anker direct should always use Amazon prime delivery service not the swisship service.

I was complaining this some time ago (Herpes!).
But ANKER told me, to choose the company for delivery is only AMAZON’s responsibility.
They can not change.

Because of this I arranged a special “secret” place with DHL.
But you are right, amazon.de has established his own delivery meanwhile here, so I should take a look
if it’s possible too,

I’ve had problems with Swisship with often late deliveries. But most of the time they send it to USPS for last leg which means USPS can store those in the locker boxes at the mail “center” of apartment community. But I prefer Amazon tbh since they are much more timely

Cool idea, maybe for some living in the city that has issues porch pirates. UPS and USPS would deposit the packages in the security box but my FedEx guy is one of worst delivery guys we’ve ever had. He’s damaged multiple packages and left them on the drive way when its raining. I doubt he would even put the packages in the security box.

At this time I wouldn’t support a kickstarter program. Just to much going on in the world to invest in something like this.

You never tried to complain that kind of delivery at Fedex?
Have you talked to that felllow?
Or better promised (give) him a tip when doing better.
Tips are always the best way to solve that kind of problems.
Of course I can act in another way -> mostly at home, so I got personal contact, which is always the very best.

Not so bad where I live at the moment to have a secure box like this. I am getting a fair service from all the companies and they even hide my parcel behind the porch pillar (sometimes) so it’s not visible to the outsiders.
I will think of it when there is a real bad porch pirates issue in my neighborhood.

Great idea only if we can get the Major carriers onboard to deliver to secure box.

Usually they just throw the package from 10 ft away and leave… for them to come up and enter a pin to unlock the box, put the package in is another 30+ seconds…

Oh really, they do.
here they dont.
Reason : Parcel is insured (loss and damage)
and if there many parcels are lost of damaged the fellow will get troubles from the company.

But right, how will the fellow get the code?
Must be added on the address.
So its visible for others.
Or how this will be managed?

Good idea, in theory. It depends on the price point. It needs to be under £100 for this to be popular.

It won’t work, I’ve complained several times. He lies and his manager believes him. He even said I was there waiting him for him one day and looked like I wanted to start something. I didn’t even know he delivered anything until my security camera notified me that someone was in driveway and he was backing up and back on the road. That’s when I saw the package sitting in the driveway. If I hadn’t noticed the package the rain would have ruined my package.

Last Saturday he delivered a grocery order and the box was crushed, half open, and upside down. The delivery was to be delivered by noon and it showed up at 5 pm. It looks like he put a heavy box or boxes on top of it (it even says fragile, this end up) and the weight crushed it. Because of this the ice packs were punctured and melts chemicals all over our fruits/veggies and ruined all the boxed goods. We reported this to the grocer and I will get a refund and they will file a complaint with FedEx. We also won’t use the grocery service until they switch to a more responsible delivery service.

That’s pretty much sums him up. I have video of the driver driving through our grass. He said he did it because my car was parked in the grass. I had to explain to the FedEx Boss that its oak for for small SUV to park in the grass its not ok to drive a big box truck fully loaded with packages through a muddy yard.

So logically, a bad driver can only do driving, so if you make him get fired, he has no choice but drive for someone else. So if you complain and change couriers, you can end up with the same guy.

So better to stick to the same courier, complain. It can be not the driver’s fault in some cases, but unrealistic manager, excessive targets, forcing an otherwise decent person to be made to fail. Again, complain, escalate. Eventually a company has to change.

Here in the UK, the shops are busy, so fewer people are doing online than, say, April, but I counted how many faces had coverings and varied 5%-15% by shop, so they are implementing compulsory face coverings here in a few days, 85%-95% of folks who don’t want to, will go back to online shopping. The irony is the rationale is to give confidence to shop.

As UK is not doing compulsory face coverings in pubs, offices, you’re going to have online shopping, go to the restaurant, pickup the items you ordered from the Amazon locker and go home, as what most will end up doing.

The problem with all your “wired” devices is that they are always only made for the US market. Like the doorbell (same with your competitors, by the way…). Everything wired does not work as it can’t cope with the different power levels we have in EU compared to US (i.e. 120V/240V). When we got a wired doorbell (Ring) the installer said he can’t install it unless we get a very specific power converter, which of course, standard (even new modern) houses do not support in the UK (nor in most EU countries). If you are lucky to find one, most electricians will tell you, that they are not certified to install it due to its specific specifications. Your wired doorbell is not even available in the UK, probably for that very reason.

Also bearing in mind, that most people will not have an outdoor power source specifically for this and most people won’t be allowed (or be wanting) to drill a hole through the wall or get everything re-wired just to put that in front of their door. So it most probably would have to be battery powered and it would be very helpful if it could be an exchangeable battery, that can be taken out to charge inside (whilst putting a backup battery pack in, for example) - something I miss with the doorbell, where you basically have to hope noone tries to ring it whilst it’s charging… again, competitors have the same problem. I think it would be great if resources and innovations could be spent on this as well.

So much for my opinion…

I’d guess about US$ 1.45m.

Bearing in mind, that’s in the US. In EU we don’t really do lockers. In a few big cities there are Amazon lockers. In Germany DHL has a couple of places with a self-service station, which people don’t like to use because they are only accessible during certain hours (i.e. 9am to 5pm) which of course makes no sense, as this is the time people work. So in the EU this would absolutely make sense. I.e. the postal service in the UK is reducing its stores and trying to franchise it out to supermarkets or mini markets instead. Again, we don’t have 24h stores like in the US and you’re limited to opening hours…

UPS and DPD usually drop off parcels at local mini supermarkets or corner stores and the stories you hear about people trying to get their parcel, about damages or “losses”…

People can do that with anything. We’ve got the eufy sec cams, if you really want to, you can just screw them off (or bash them off), there is no security whatsoever. If you wear a hoody, no one will ever find out who it was, same applies to the doorbell (which we’ve got as well). If anyone knows you just need to put a pin at the bottom and unclip it, like a mobile phone, it’ll take you 10secs to take the camera. In the end, you’re never secure unless you lock the cameras and the doorbell inside.

Huh? I’ve traveled at lot around UK last months and found an Amazon locker within minutes of my location.

The only big issue is some items are not allowed in lockers as restricted types or size. I then found a type of locker where you showed your code to a shopkeeper who then handed item to you, these are farther apart so more average journey time.
