That looks very yummy.

I’ve missed out on the beer one this year, last years had a couple of natural ones that over fermented in the bottle, and weren’t the greatest…

Over fermented?
The Weißbier here got fermentation by bottle.
But I never got one “over fermented”.
But don’t forget : A good fermentation is good for “digestion”

What a super idea @Achimel, an alcoholic based advent calendar :+1:t2:

Yes, I love it! Forgot to take a photo of my beer one but found online images haha

I think that one was unfiltered, had a lot of sediment on the bottom that kept perkin along…

Needless to say I got one surprise when I opened the box, another upon opening the bottle and a third when I tasted it…

Sometimes bad stuff shows up.
Small breweries are able to produce this.
Often they don’t know as the beer getting undrinkable in the bottle after bottling.
But not often, otherwise no more customers. :grinning:

Have you ever visited a brewery?
A good brewery needs to be clean.
Sterile : Perfectly cleaned bottles etc.
Otherwise you will get sour beer from there.

Prost from München!
Without “sour beer”

Tried Shipyard before, not an overly bad IPA however prefer something more along the lines of Anchor Steam.

Should have 5 litres of home brew to start on by next weekend (family invited of course)…one of those Dad / Bloke gifts on Amazon to brew your own Oktoberfest Style beer quick and fast…whether quick and fast will translate to drinkable, who knows

Hey @ndalby
Shipyard is quite nice. Never tried Anchor Steam, will keep my eyes open for it.

Never made homebrew before but I do remember my dad making it when I was a kid.
I think the kits have come a long way since then.
Let us all know how it turns out :+1:t2:

No, havent tried something special.
I got my Franziskaner, Erdinger and Paulaner Weißbier.
I like them all.
They are always offered with discounts.
So I change .
Isn’t it a difference you pay 17 Euros for a crate (20 X 0,5L) or 11 Euros.
Same stuff, but a huge saving.

There are some beers offered for 8-9 Euros a crate.
But those don’t taste, I have tried.

PROST from München to all buddies here on the table!

Hmm!
I would not trust!

You should tell us about your “brewery experiment”.
We, the beer friends, we must know, Neil!

It’s nice to try new things. But always good to drink the ones you like the best.
I always look out for the deals, you have too.
The beer I buy is often £2-£2.50 a bottle but you can regularly get 4 bottles for £5-£6 or cheaper.

Buy extra when the price is low and drink while the price os high!

Regarding the beer price, the people in UK must have a higher income as we here in Germany.
But for example a 1/2L beer in a “normal pub” is about 4-5 Euros here in München.
On the country side its lower, may be 3 Euros.

I dont go to pubs normally.
Only in summer when meeting with old friends. (Biergarten)
There one liter from the barrel is about 9 Euros.
That’s great, outside and its possible to bring your own food.
The beer there, from the barrel is tasting better as the bottled ones.
The “gas” is finer.

Prost Paul!

A little bit stormy outside.
So I had to care about things flying around in the garden.
But all is really fixed now.

Exactly, thats what I do. :joy:

The average price in my local pub is £5 per pint (568ml) some as cheap as £4.30 (Fosters) and others £5.80 for Peroni or San Miguel.

It’s been crazy windy here again Franz. Earlier there was sun at the back of the house and hail storms at the front.

Best of luck with the brew. I found beer making to be fiddly and slight bit of unclean / sanitized meant vinegar…

Wine was much easier

You’ll have to let us know if it passed…

as far I know you have to be very careful regarding cleanness and sterility.
Otherwise you will some …

And I would say I dont know what you will get with such “fast brews”.
Normally a beer needs to be ripened. and matured.
There are breweries here producing beer in a so called
“Schnellbrauverfahren” -> Fast brewing.
These are the cheap ones I mentioned.
But I am sure this can not be done within a week.
Normally it should be matured about 12 weeks or so,.

When I was student I was more in pubs than at home!
But now, settled, I stay at home.

I remember I was a member of a regular’s table of a pub a friend of mine owned.
I often helped him as bartender.
(Very dangerous job, because you drink always only a “small gulp”.
But a lot of these! )

The first time the regulars table was very interesting and amusing,
because the members were lawyers, architects and physicians etc.
But after a while, I checked there were always similar/same stories been narrated
This was getting boring and ended when my friend gave up the pub.
Was a perfect possibility to escape and disappear.
