May I introduce you to our friend “Lizzy”
( we gave that cat this name )
She is a portuguese cat, so she will have a glass of wine with you.
A real portuguese lady is not such a beer friend.

It is Paul.
I will take that awfull touchpatch ( sic) with me and take some more photos.

So many elder people from UK , Germany, Netherlands ect. are
living here on that beautiful island.
Resting the old bones in the sun.
Always great to talk with.

Good night, Gute Nacht, boa noite.

Unfortunately no more Pliny left. I’ve been working through a Costco pack of beer by Ballast Point - they’re fairly popular for their Sculpins.

Hey guys, hope you’ve had a great Saturday so far!
Tonight I picked up a few of these,

Going down a treat with hot crisps (chips for our U.S. friends).

What are you guys drinking this weekend?

I told you I am back to my Weißbier.
But really, the Portugese redwine was good as usual.
I am not a wine connoisseur at all.
Funny , the "patrao don Albino"of the cafe/bar we visited daily for talks and coffee had a special wine in huge bottles
But these were some kind of private. hidden under the “counter”

Quasi home made and only for some “special boozers”.
A glass ca 1/4 L was 60 cent.
Tasted very interesting.
But it was incredible strong.
I would say about 14-15%
I suggested to buy a 5L bottle, but my wife said “NO”. :joy:
She is of course right, (wifes are allways right we “husbands” know)
This wine is more like a Port wine or Madeira wine.
By the way we brought some bottles of excellent olive oil and some packages of “presunto” (Portuguese smoked ham) back home with us.
You should google for that “presunto”

60 cents, that’s about 50 pence here in the UK!
A large glass of wine in our local pub is around £4-£5 :exploding_head:

That’s a very nice (albeit lonely) looking amber ale @paulstevenewing

I’m going with a dram of laphroig quarter cask and spicy paneer pizza tonight myself.

Sounds great @TheSnarkyOne
Haven’t had a splash of Laphroaig in a while.
I’ll have to add a bottle to my collection soon.

Of course you pay more in a “noble bar” in Portugal.
But in the normal little bars, you find those normally at every corner, you should get a glass under 1 Euro.
So many people from UK live in Madeira.
Easy for them because the most of the Madeirenses speak English perfectly.

Funny indeed, they know you are a stranger, so they start to speak English with you.
But when you answer in Portuguese you have really new friends.

And if you really go to the countryside, the “simple” persons dont speak English well.

I’m expecting the progression of photos getting blurrier and blurrier as the trials continue…

How did the first taste?
