Yes my road bike, I probably got the wrong model, too few gears, brakes could be better, but I’m in hills unlike Flatland Norfolk.

I’m thinking of swapping inner chainring for smaller, dismantle the cassette and put on a granny gear ring, and learn to tune the brakes.

Nice!
Groupset can make a big difference, often more than a lighter frame etc.
Is there an upgrade path for you? Maybe a new rear wheel and cassette?

Thats true, Norfolk is pretty flat. I’m considering a new bike for commuting and leisure so likely another mountain bike although i may consider a road bike too as a full suspension mountain bike will make for a tough commute.

It’s a 90/120 BCD 34/50 so I can swap the 34 90 to say 30 for £17 and probably swap the inner sprocket for say 2t larger. My last road bike had a triple 30/40/50 but they are harder to get now.

I avoid suspension, you are equipped with already with suspension: eyes to see and stand up, elbows bent, knees bent. These 3 free tools are lighter and less prone to failure.

I have an old aluminium bike in the basement.
Kettler alu from ca 1960 with a tachometer.
Such one:
more that vintage!

5 gears only…

I use another Kettler aluminium newer model.
runs fine
Will start more biking, not so excessive as @professor, only a little bit.
Too dangerous in the city all crazy bikers around, without any rules.

Biking makes you stronger. So just bike.
Beer, in moderation, makes you happy, boosts immune system.
Obesity is bad but roughly an hour of biking is same as a beer.
So bike for a couple of hours, a couple of beers, makes you healthier and happier.

If cyclists are being bad, then find a time of day or a route which is better.

On Friday I biked 70 miles. I saw two bad cyclists, one got hit in front of my eyes, my initial personal opinion was they were at fault, but I sat with them and my jacket over them until the ambulance arrived. They were riding too fast for the situation.

Triple chainsets do seem to be rare now.
For the money its worth playing with different sprockets and seeing if that helps a bit.
I get your point re-rear suspension. Reliability seems ok but the additional servicing is something thats in the back of my mind.

Is that an exercise/fixed bike Franz?
It can be hazardous on the roads with a small accident having big consequences. But good day running lights front and back and a confident road position can normally keep you out of trouble.

I am an old skilled tinkerer Paul.
I repair bikes since I was about 10 years old.
My father thought me to how to repair flat tires and many other things.
The bikes here are all perfect.
I care about.
How do I say : you need 3 bikes.
One for driving (hidden), one to get stolen (public) and one to get repaired.

That’s gorgeous!!

I have both mountain and road bikes. Salsa for the mountains and Fuji for the roads  I don’t do so many repairs though. I figure the amount I’d pay for all the unique tools just equals a new bike

I prefer independence, buy the tools. Sometimes I ask the bike shop to do the job with the tool while I watch, then buy the tool to do it myself next time.

I repair other’s bikes, usually family but sometimes strangers I encounter.

The UK is doing yet another attempt to get more biking, I’m skeptical, it is one thing to do it in summer… I have probably 5 different types of cycling jacket and 3 types of cycling legwear and 3 different types of footwear, just to handle the hot wet, warm wet, cold wet conditions through the year.

Today I had my warm but chance of light rain jacket packed.

I have problems with my hands.
(Raynaud syndrom)
So I need hand warmers in the winter, I found warmers
can be charged by USB and can even used as a power bank.

Works perfectly for hours.

Now the schools have reopened, I’m getting back to what I’d normally do, biked 60 miles today into the mountains. Rained half the time but too warm to put on waterproofs so just now drying out and steaming up the pub.

The beer is an Abbot’s IPA

I am on the road total 5 days and set myself the challenge of having everything in a 16L bike bag, so last night I weighed everything, and yes the Powerport Nano and the Powerport Mini is less weight than the Duo, and the Powerline II Braided 6ft made it into my kit. The Powercore 10000 PD is lighter than the 10000 PD Slim (makes sense, more skin the thinner is the shape).
