Any watch enthusiast here?

Yeah but it looks so good :yum:

Still a watch theme

Seems fun, but most likely not a US site?

@Quinn_Armstrong
It’s an international comp open to people all over.
I first came across it in an airport.

There’s been a couple of winners from US

I’ll take an invite, can you DM me details?

Personally, I truly marvel the usage of bronze material due to its anti corrosion properties but more importantly, bronze gives a patina look as it ages. So a new bronze watch might look completely different in a 10-20 years span

Hm depends on your taste.
Of course patina is important to a bronze figurine.
But a watch case?

If you like it, fine.
I prefer steel, don’ t like gold.

Yes, no gold for me!

gold

“Old James” was wearing R.lex first, but “New James” likes O.ega"

You really know your history! Tilt my hat to your sir.

I am an “old Franz”, but like O.mega like “new James”.

Something interesting about omega which I’m sure you may already know. The original name for the company was “Louis Brandt & Fils” named after the founder and sons. However, it was later renamed after a global success of the original calibre known as “omega”.

If you are interested I will take a look at my “magazine” and pick some
old treasures.
Those will normally not show up at the market nowadays.

These old “Seamasters” which they try to sell, are mostly “marriages”.
Very obscure.
O.mega is a great manufacturer.
Not only the “old Franz” and the “Young James” know this.

Please do share !! It’ll be amazing to see some pictures of those vintage pages haha. Thanks for keeping this thread alive !

Bronze on a watch‽ Surely bronze is too easily broken by shock to be any good for a watch?

Copper yes, many cheaper watches use a copper frame and then coat in chrome, even plastics. It’s heavier than an alloy, but solid enough and unlike bronze is not afraid of shocks.

I could see a copper bezel age quote nicely… Like a dirty gold!

Bronze is harder than copper as a result of alloying that metal with tin or other metals. Bronze is also more fusible (i.e., more readily melted) and is hence easier to cast. It is also harder than pure iron and far more resistant to corrosion.

I use quite a lot smartwatches and smarttracker. I really would appreciate a Anker WearOS Smartwatch with high performance and awesome battery time.

I got this one recently.
Seems t be from 1960 as far I could find out.

TISS.T is a well known manufacture as well.
Same quality as O.EGA in those days.

Tissot is still considered a good brand, it’s the Swiss badge that does it!

I personally wouldn’t bring alongside an omega (I mean James James bond wore those often!)

I think it’s one of the poor man’s Swiss watch, and a good entry point, especially when second hand.

I’d love to join you on you fleemarket wanderings!

This T.SSOT has the calibre 2481, the same like O.EGA there its called 1481.

In those days both manufacturers were working close together.
Developing movements which both used.
