Any watch enthusiast here?

You can’t in some situations, but a skilled watchmaker with tactful hands can do just about anything. My old coworkers grandfather has been repairing and making watches since he was 8 and at the time he made mine he was about 85. He’s still kicking ass making watches and he’s pushing 98 next year.

I can only imagine what his watch collection looks like

Thank you, @Jesse_Hernandez1!

Yeah, although I don’t wear gold too much and looks a bit awkward with my stainless steel wedding band.

Yes! I can’t wait to take a peek at those.

Wonder where in the states I could pick up antique/vintage military watches!

Thanks @k_pug2003.

I love the blacked out look and with Eco Drive I don’t have to change batteries! Hooray!

Those skilled watchmakers are not easy to find.
They are the real “JEWELS”
Mine, who serviced many of my watches gave up with 85 years.

Those I found meanwhile are mostly “bunglers”.
Now I got one who can do simple works,
like cleaning etc.
But the most important thing is to get fitting spare parts.
Many manufacturers dont give these to watchmakers, so the customer HAS to send the watch to the manufacturer.
And this overhauling always cost you a fortune,
and often they refuse to do it, as it was in your case.

That’s what is keeping him going. Keeping his.mind active and his hand steady still.

Any pics of the watches he has made?

I wish, but there all in Vermont still and no way to get them

Ah ok, would’ve been amazing to see them

I just tried to see if his website was still up but it looks like it hasn’t been up in years,I’ll message my old coworker to see if he can get me some pictures…it is his grandfather afterall

This one I got yesterday:
JUNGHANS, well known German watch manufacturer.
Military watch, about 1940, as it has fixed lugs and a black dial.

Interesting is the movement.
J97 so called “Formwerk”
The German watch manufacturers were using often such called
“Formwerk” in WWII.
e.g UROFA, STOWA and, as we see JUNGHANS as well…

Dear friends, enjoy your " lazy sunday afternoon", same way I do!

What a beauty! Piece of art for sure.

Does it work well?

Works fine!
And this after more than 70 years!
Great!

This is the kind of technique I like.
Clear and understandable.

Nowadays : Some weird apps and hidden libraries (JAVA )
Black boxes only.

Even the programmer wo was creating these doesn’t understand why those are working or NOT! :sunglasses:

Haha. Sorry. Late to the post but this is hysterical. However, it would only make sense if the wife isnt a watch enthusiast as well. I always find it very attractive when a lady wears a larger dial watch on her wrist.

this is my favorite watch among all … simple and comfortable …

This is a “dressing watch” I would call this type.

I’ve got a soft spot for fossil. I like how simple and elegant they are. Their leather bags are good too!
