Imagine an Android phone with the attractive styling, toughness and battery quality of an Anker. I’d want it to be heavier than normal phones as it would have a 10,000mAh battery built-in. Run CM on it and it would be my dream phone. Anyone else think Anker could make a great job of producing a phone? Would you buy a heavier phone that lasted for days of proper use? I know I would!
Would you buy an Anker phone?
I think anker needs to stick to what they are doing, there are plenty of cell phone manufacturers out there, we don’t need something likie what’s happened to samsung again
It is a well served sector. I think Anker would be wise to avoid.
Good to focus in early development with those who make phones, I’m thinking more designed in China phones to have a set of compatible charging type options like battery cases or cases with a wireless plate built in which is aligned with a Qi charger (often cases the receiver is too far from the transmitter for reliable fast so embedding inside the case would be faster).
So for example if Anker had worked with OnePlus in the OnePlus3, the OnePlus3 is metal case so no wireless charging, but OnePlus release the OnePlus3 with some cases, if one of those cases had a Qi receiver built into the case and you dropped the phone into the case to mate in the USB-C socket, then closed the phone in… then would work as a “system”.
You have obvious easier relationships, like make an Anker USB cable and Anker Powerport2 bundled with the mobile as often the chargers are 'orrible.
Honestly, the phone would have to be highly top notch. I don’t think Anker is a big enough company to make their own Smartphone. I can see them partnering with a big brand. Anker has a bright future ahead.
I guess I’m just sick of phones that barely last a day on a charge. It just feels that Anker could help with that.
I also think Anker shouldn’t make that much of a jump from electronics to phone, because it would take attention from their actual focus. Maybe instead, sell batteries for phones. It will never get to where Apple or Samsung is.
It doesn’t need to get to where Apple or Samsung is. I think they could make a large-battery, heavier and well-designed phone and be like Wileyfox or OnePlus and have a small but dedicated following.
yes, I think i would buy it
i think im quite engrossed in the apple eco-system, not to mention how easy it is to use. im not sure i want to relearn a phone at this point. i really enjoy this device for its simplicity
Honestly, not until 2 or 3 versions down the road. The first phone from a new manufacturer can never match phones from established brands such as Apple or Samsung.
Not to get into the whole iOS/android debate, but I never understand the ‘easy to use’ tag with iOS. Any time I need to use iOS I find it incredibly frustrating and end up wanting to bounce the device off the nearest wall.
I think these product suggestions are frankly getting a little bit ridiculous. Anker is clearly a mobile accessories manufacturer primarily; although they’ve branched into lamps and a few other product types, this is what they are known for. If they launched a phone, people probably wouldn’t buy it over more established phone brands such as Samsung, Apple, or even Google (they’ve been directly in the phone business for a while).
Anker should stay focussed on enhancing existing devices. The established manufacturers are at the top of their game, but they are still missing the small, personal details. This is where Anker successfully come in:
- Want a better cover? Anker
- Want a larger battery? Anker
- Want a faster charger? Better cable? Screen protector? Anker. Anker. Anker.
All day long.
there are no real menus, a lot of icons that are easy to recognise. there are no overly complicated settings which are hard to undo. i don’t feel its my job to convince you because im sure you’re happy with your current phone, so ill leave it there
Hell no. The sheer number of trash phones out there made by small companies like Anker is absurd. Out of hundreds of small phone trash manufacturers, the only successful one I can think of is Blu, because of their $50 phone on Amazon which generates actually $.50ish profit per unit
Personally I would not, I don’t believe they have the resources/technology necessary to create a phone.
