Working today ( JAN 2nd)

This has absolutely nothing to do with Anker but just trying to get to know people from different Countries within this forum and how their holidays work.

I was off since the 23rd of December and have to work today. I took the Jan 1 stat holiday in between Christmas and New years. My son who is in grade 11 has been off school from Dec 23rd and doesn’t go back until Jan 9th.

Here in California it is a state holiday today in lieu of New Years Day landing on a weekend. So that’s a 4 day weekend, 3 work days, 3 day weekend for most. Many non-service businesses do a shutdown for the 3 days in between leading to a 10 day total break (of which often compulsory use of 3 days accrued vacation).

Here in Scotland Christmas day, boxing day, new year’s day and the 2nd of January are all public holidays. However since Christmas day and new year’s day fell on a Sunday this year, the holidays roll over so the Monday and Tuesdays were public holidays.

However, at my work we don’t get the public holidays off throughout the year. Instead we get over Christmas and new year off instead. So I’ve been off since 12:30pm on Friday 23rd and go back on wednesday 4,the January.

Must say, I hate the idea of going back to work on the 2nd January… Need a proper day to recover from new year

Yes I totally agree about Jan 2nd, It’s brutal to work on this day if you have celebrated the way a lot of us do on New years eve. We always host a neighbors brunch on New years day that ends up turning into new years part 2, LOL. Thankfully I am self employed and am only working today as a motivation for the rest of the week/year . It’s Noon now and I am going home. :weary:

When I was a teenager I used to work every new year’s day in the local newsagents. Was fine when I wasn’t drinking (much!) But house parties are what we normally do now to bring in the bells.
