Why is iPad pro (2018) incompatible to Anker 5-in-1 USB C Adapter

Why is the Anker 5-in-1 USB C Adapter incompatible to the iPad pro 2018?
The ipad pro 2018 has a charging current of 1.408A.
The 5-in-1 USB C Adapter connected USB devices should not exceed an input current of 1.5A for charging ports, or 0.9A for data ports.

Which version of the iPad Pro do you have? Does it use Lightning or USB-C? If USB-C, the Anker 5-in-1 doesn’t offer a USB-C input. Only a USB-C output for a host Type C port on a desktop or laptop.

I own the iPad Pro 11" which uses USB-C and I charge it frequently with these two PowerPorts. The Anker PowerPort Atom III Slim: https://amzn.to/2OF7rxq

And the Anker PowerPort III Mini: https://amzn.to/2q7z7Bb

I use also a iPad Pro 11" (2018) with USB-C.
I’ve seen at Anker 5-in-1: … USB-C Power delivery supports with 60W …Sync data from a thumb drive, plug in USB peripherals …
So I thought, the limitation was the charging-current.

I am looking for an hub with PD and input/output via USB-C.

I use the Anker PowerExpand+ 7-in-1 and all ports work on my iPad Pro 11 (2018). The only thing I haven’t tried is the Ethernet port. I did, however, needed to buy a USB-C 30w charger. This is to supply power to the hub while connected to the iPad when I use the HDMI port.

I’m using a different USB-C hub (with my iPad Pro) from a different manufacturer and it works. But it looks like the Anker PoweExpand + 7-in-1 as above works.

Can anybody confirm if the Anker PoweExpand + 7-in-1 will deliver power and all ports work with the Ipad pro 11inch?

I ask this because everywhere i look to buy one it says its incompatible with the Ipad pro, however reading this topic makes me wonder if it does work.

If it does not work, could somebody explain why?

Thanks

Hi mate. Could you inform me of which type you are using please? Desperate for one that is compatible.

@dj.shauny.g I’m using the HyperDrive 6-in-1 USB-C Hub for iPad Pro

Thanks mate. Appreciate the quick response

Yes, the PowerExpand+ 7-in-1 will pass charging current to the iPad Pro but you have to use a high output charger, such as my 30W USB-C charger. I don’t know if an 18W will work but it should in theory. You do have to remember that these hubs are an additional load to the circuit, so you must power the hub and iPad Pro.
