Weekend activities! (old thread reanimated)

Yes biking. I returned with whatever viruses you can get with being within 20 feet of sheep , cows, the odd Hare, and returned, with 70 miles of exercise under my belt.

The issue you had there was weather was good and it’s near a road, so there is no filter, no “you need to really put effort in to be here” filter.

There are vast areas where you can spend days and weeks and struggle to get up close to others for any length of time, unless you wanted to. Most years, you’d want to (trust me, spend 7 nights in a tent).

I’m waiting til schools reopen then I can head out properly for a few weeks. I normally would do, say, a bike to John O’Groats in April / May when it’s longer days but still cool to keep the insects down and not summer holidays, but Scotland had rebuilt Hadrians Wall to keep the filthy English out.

For those away from UK, Paul is meaning this spot:

Thats a great ride @professor :+1:t2:
Unfortunately we our timing is tied a little with Charlie, that coupled with amazing weather brought everyman and his dog out today - literally.
From what i read in the news, Scotland would be wise to close their boarders!

They were stoked! Well until the battery died five minutes later lol. Started checking out other options for cheap batteries. My daughter was a bit too tall for the gas pedal, so I ended up doing this tonight…

Great photos I am really jealous.
This year no sea, no beaches.
We have cancelled our vacations.
Would have been 7 flights and a journey by boat.
Airports, we avoid these now for while.

May be in autumn 2 flights only, this is OK.
But not seven.
Let’s see how the situation is in October.
Who knows.

Thank you @Chiquinho
Hope things will improve… We too have cancelled our trip, summer vacation for kids is gone, now schools are starting soon… 5 months gone staying at home.

Many are now annoying the distance and the mask rules.
I can avoid those people when not traveling around in groups (airplanes, airports)

Started to repair a fence yesterday.
Some parts are really rotten (like my bones )
But the rain stopped it.
But I have time to do, slow and precise.

Next project : changing the strap of a roller blind of a roof window.
But I will do that with a friend.
He inside, me outside on the roof and he got a phone and can call the emergency ambulance.
But I am free from any giddiness and very careful.
Have been on the roof often.
ca 17m ( good distance vision from there )

Always best to have a helping hand with jobs like that, taken it easy.

Depends on the helping hand.
Some would like to help, but they are not able.
You always need someone who is knowing what to do. :joy:

Yesterday I got wood for our tile stove.
Not easy to find someone from the countryside delivering it to the city.
And the quality is VERY important.
Need to be < 15% residual moisture.
Otherwise you will ruin the chimney pretty soon.
This year it was more than excellent, no barks. and < 10% ( I Take beech wood always )
No I need to create wood stacks.
Business as usual, but too hot outside at the moment.

if we would life on the countryside it would be much easier to get hands on firewood.
But…

hope you all have better things to do than being the “man of the woods” :joy:

I remember the days when we had woodburners.
Can’t beat it, unless you’re an environmentalist of course.
I loved sourcing, cutting and seasoning my own wood - made easy that friends of ours owned land so wood was readily available.
The only thing i didn’t like about storing wood is that it attracts spiders as big dinner plates :flushed:

Whow, such a spider in UK?
Seems not normal to me.

Being independent from others is always perfect.
I have met an old friend recently who is a parquet layer.
He is busy now in bringing always some rests of the parquet ->
Oak without lacquer of course.

This year I will run short of place for storage but I can keep the beechwood in the boxes.
Need only to cover.

Better too much wood, than run short in the deep winter.
Pensioners have to keep their old bones and heinis warm they need a cosy place in front of the stove.
Fantastic! Leaning back there.

Those woodburners are getting more “en vouge” here too.
But the laws!!! -> Fine dust!
The chimney sweepers are mighty persons .
They can forbid you to use a tile stove or such a woodburner.
But the fellow here is quite a friend…heheh
I have 3 in the house. big tile stove a fireplace (well know in UK!) and a little tile stove.
So he “forbid” me use that fire place which I NEVER use.
All done for the bureaucrazy. (sic)

The spider is one i found online and
Yes, Oak is good so is Ash. The harder the wood the more heat it produces as you know.

Its the density too.
Take a piece of oak and a piece of spruce for example.
But what is a must is tool for checking the moisture.
Even simple tools are good, because 1% more or less doesn’t matter much.

Such big spider will either give me a heart attack or nightmares for days!

Is that your arm next to it??

Edit:nevermind, I just realized you found it online
