Ankerofficial was right… you are indeed a detective :male_detective: :+1:

Galaxy Active 2.
Seems good so far, still not sure if I see the point in them - a scaled down phone on you wrist
But it’s a new toy for me :+1:t2:

For new phone and a gadget.
Never had one and Samsung are currently offering ÂŁ50 cashback :+1:t2:

My wife has such one but a cheaper model I dont know the manufacturer.
I will never turn away from my mechanical watches.
I know @professor will call me a luddite again.
But a look into a working movement of such a watch is fantastic.
Mechanical technique is much more fascinating than electronic!

I have them, the only real benefit I saw was:

  • walking in rain, if my phone bleeps I hold wrist up and see who
  • biking, I look at wrist when phone rings or bleeps or I filter emails at stops
  • often paired with some Anker Slim buds around neck or in one ear.
  • contactless payment, no getting phone out or card out, just wrist to til.

It was more useful when commuting to/from work on bike and train, as I’d have an hour when I’d be keeping on top of work emails. Much less useful when not working. If you get to work via your car then you’d have a phone holder near eyeline, or your work doesn’t involve close reply to email, then I dont see a point. I think using this for fitness is a dumb as you should exercise for fun and do as much as you can and so get all the fitness you need as a by product of fun.

Well if I just said what was the watch you’d think I’m a bit too fascinated in smartwatch but instead I taught you something you didn’t know and so help you solve problems faster. Teach to fish as they say.

I used Google Lens a lot walking around Montreal where for weird reasons they had important signs in French :confounded: I think if we can get smart contact lens it can do this for us. :exploding_head:

Sometimes the whole technique will not help. :joy:

How many languages do you speak?

Hey @professor
Biking is a good one i hadn’t though aof yet.
It will be useful at work to take a look at the notification before reaching for the phone.
To elaborate on the rain thing it will also be useful when in a long coat where its not so easy to reach in the jeans pocket to grab the phone.
The contact payment will be a good one for me, again saves reaching for the phone when its there in my wrist.

I do feel its pointless, to a point.
And extension to an expensive phone but not as practical, not as easy to use and not very good value for money.
BUT i do my best to keep up with the kids

Thank you @professor I will make use of this feature

Need to see how I can use it with iPhone, I do see it on Google photos app

In the past, I have travelled through places in Europe without knowing the local language … using English and sign language :rofl:

No smartwatch, no Smartphone

So have I. In airports and other major transport hubs you have the local language and English. English being the most popular language when adding 1st and 2nd language.

In UK and in Eire, where local languages rightly need defending by use, they have bilingual road signs.

Totally happy with the middle bit of Canada being bilingual but its got English speakers to its west, east and south and a road sign at 70mph / 100kph saying basically an exit is closed or diversion, is obtuse and unfriendly. French only in places like restaurant totally fine as you time have to practice, learn, or ask for help while you are learning, but not at 70mph.

My French and German is enough to count, order food and general directions.

We should all of course attempt to learn local languages, but to put someone’s life at risk on road signs is… too… far…

Fortunately most of the Europeans speak English.
But speaking the local language is SO MUCH better of course, even a few sentences
Helps a lot to get in touch with people.
In France you will get lost often speaking English only.
.

Mercy Boo Koo.

i was on official visit to all these countries, was a bit short notice to learn all of them
But i do get your point, knowing local language is a best thing!

Not “really knowing” but only trying to learn some phrases via crash course is VERY helpful.

There is one thing I really dont like at all :
A stranger asks me something in English without having asked me before IF I DO speak his language.
Sometimes I answer him in perfect English, that I really dont speak the language.
