Weekend activities! (old thread reanimated)

A few still remain after the dust has resettled.
This weekend we visited the Warner Bothers Harry Potter Studios in London.
It was Charlie’s birthday treat.

See @paulstevenewing is still here too @Chiquinho.
Ooooooo that harry potter studio looks amazing! I have loved harry potter since I was little The one in London is on my list of places to visit. I have don’t the universal studios one in Florida, and then some harry potter exhibit that had come to new york at one point in time. I think another harry potter store just opened in NYC, its on my list as well to go to.

Happy Birthday Charlie! Is he old enough to be waiting on his letter from hogwarts

I do make my way around here a lot but do agree we are not as talkative as we were before…

Hey @ktkundy
Yes, still kicking about :+1:t2:
It’s was a great day. If you find yourself in the U.K. its well worth a visit, but set aside a whole day. We were there for about 5 hours including a lunch stop and could have easily stayed for another few hours to watch some of the videos.

He is 9, so maybe a couple of years before his official letter.
But he did love this that I knocked up to announce the visit!

Wow that’s great! I love the letter so much! Glad to hear you had a great time! Hopefully I’ll get to go at some point

Still showing up periodically to see what’s going on…but sometimes this website’s speed deters me. We are so used to clicking on a bookmark and within seconds, being fully in the desired website. I don’t know why this one in particular is so slow to respond initially…it’s been like this for years. Sometimes takes 30 seconds to even connect but after connected, it’s fine. Seems like it’s the login process.

I’m still here! only infrequently though

Great to see you all.

Very heartily greetings to my friend “Charlie” from UK! @paulstevenewing
Seems it was a interesting and exciting visit for you all.

Talking about the speed of uploading
@SZak2015
Do you remember the old days:
WWW -> World Wide Waiting!

Seems we are “pampered” regarding the speed.

A friend donated me an old Laptop.
WIN XP.
That’s a true speed The speed of the old days…hehehe!
It isn’t worth to install Linux on it
Weak processor and memory is limited to 2GB.
So I will donate it to someone who needs, if there is really any need.

agreed the site definitely feels slower compared to other sites I use which can sometimes be more annoying than I care. I guess Anker is trying to teach us patience :joy:

We still use a Pentium 90 Win 95 PC at work. It runs a Komo CNC router that I do CAD/CAM work for and PC and CNC maintenance on. These types of industrial machines can usually not be upgraded to anything newer since the software is written for the specific hardware. It needs to keep operating as it is and it’s becoming quite a challenge (as well as a headache) for me. We just recently got two more CNC routers, totally different than the first and only two years newer (from 2001) than the old one so now I have three headaches to deal with and to learn and figure out.

I do like the simplicity of the older operating systems however since I grew up using MS DOS and Windows 3.1. Trouble with older operating systems however is the lack of connectivity to newer OS’s…the CNC that runs Windows 95 has no USB nor any way to add it via hardware….to transfer files (GCODE which is the program code that the machine translates into movement/cutting motion) to it from my main computer in the office, we need to use 3.5” floppy disks.

Whow!

Welcome to Neanderthal’s computers !

Do you know that still COBOL programmers are needed.
There are many such COBOL programs in use and the young ones don’t know to handle.
The problem off our days programming is the use of bibliotheques.
eg. Java.
Using the given function the modul etc.
Works.
But the next day it doesn’t work any more.
The function has been altered and one doesnt know it.

Who can read a hex-dump in our days?
I was urged to learn this and of course I can read assembler commands.
Nothing changed there since 50 years.
Still on bits and bytes, registers etc.
Who from the programmers knows the commands of an INTEL processor.
Who knows how a compiler translates programs into machine code?
Scanner, Parser etc.
When I started working we created such compiler creating systems.
Input ; the Syntax of a programming language output a compiler for a processor.
Of course modularized .

Be careful with that old device.
What would happen if the motherboard crashes.

How was everyone’s weekend? I hope you all have a great week a head of you!

Of course I did/do.
Now we are expecting the incredible “heatwave” here.
What a nonsense.
Its summer will be ca 32C here in München.
What is the problem?
But our liar press is creating sensational articles daily.
Forget about such a “government press”
Creating only fear for the people.

I do not watch TV, no radio except this one from Switzerland.
Im free!!!

Try it, I am sure you will like it.
Enjoy the week Kaitlyn.

Awesome thanks @ktkundy
Beach day Saturday and a relaxing Sunday.
How about you?

Nothing stop us hitting the coast @ktkundy :sunglasses:
You can’t beat a good birthday celebration.
Apart from a birthday celebration with ice cream and cake :+1:t2:

Be very!!! careful with the sun.
I saw often UK-people in PT not used to the high temperatures and the strong sun there.

Red, with burned skin.

At the coast there is always a little bit of wind which makes one to forget about the heat and the strength of the radiation.

I am sure you all know that.
But what I can do I am an old “teacher”

I am preparing for the gas stop!
Was sawing a pile of wood in the morning,
Now all my wood places are filled up.

btw The beech wood I bought in March was ca 200 Euro.
Now its 300 Euro.
All is crazy here in Germany.

This is the reason of the scaremongering of our f***ing press.
(Scaremongering is a interesting expression)
I know only a fishmonger.
So there might exist a beermonger too…heheh!

But I was donated a whole roof truss last year from a condemned house.
So I am fine with the fire wood.

Yes Franz thats right.
Its easy to get caught out on the coast with the often refreshing breeze.
We always use a high factor suncream and shelter where we can.
Scaremongering is an Interesting word.
Broken down it makes sense,
Scare - to worry or cause concern.
Monger - seller or trader.

Beermonger, maybe to cause concern that beer stocks are running out to cause panic buying! I’ll see you in the queue Franz

I found this “scaremongering” in the dictionary, Paul
It makes sense, that’s true.

I also know that the German word “Angst” is used in the English vocabulary.

The famous “German Angst” created by the “lying press” daily

Beer Mongering : This week special sale!!!
“König Ludwig Weißbier” : 12.99.
Not bad.
“Edeka” is about 10 minutes walking from our house and I use a bike to carry home.

Just need to make sure my house is ready for it. (cut grass, turn off water when it is time, gather cords, clean gutters and etc)

Also need to change oil in my vehicle, son’s vehicle and maybe replace son’s breaks before he goes back to college.
