We Love Testing | Upcoming Testing Events

Sometimes, you just have to make a movie about Fight Club instead.

While this might be somewhat true for reviews, that is not at all how beta testing works. Companies try to select people who will provide the most valuable feedback and constructive criticism.

Yes I know, but there still may be a lot of people who don’t understand this, and try a the “compliments approach”

I never was asked to do any beta test.
But I was chosen for testing a speaker at a competition.

Power user is quite dead.

Depends which part of the company is funding it.

Product Managers want product feedback.
Marketing just want more people aware of the product.

Based on the first (and last so far to date) beta I tested for Anker, constructive criticism didn’t seem to come into it, it was a case of test and grade the product on 5 features from 1-5…not the best for feedback IMO…hopefully its changed more in the 2+ years since I tested a beta

The last beta testing I did, I can tell you that the feedback everyone had given them was taken serious. So much so that updates have gone out and a new product revision is in the works. Sure it has pushed the product back from being released, but they actually want to get this right. So I’m glad everyone’s feedback has helped them for that product

They should not announce products until after they’ve been beta tested!

I agree with this, and I can say what I had tested was NOT announced before.

Oh, good! So then how do you know that it was delayed?

Adding to your points @Insider … They should not announce the products until the launch and logistics are planned, all the teams - Marketing, Supply, Delivery and Support are on the same page!

Agree there is a problem within Anker between the product managers and marketing.

It’s like either Marketing are bullying product managers to announce a product they have doubts, like for big tech events (CES, IFA, etc) or a product manager is not listening to the engineers qualified probability statements.

Personally I’d prefer if they did beta-testing of unannounced products and once they made prototypes and ironed out the feedback, then announce. It bypasses the months of “are there yet Dad?” as well as make for better products. But the year they moved from over-announcement to right-announcement, you have to withstand the criticism of nothing announced for 6-12 months.

Many tech vendors announce after months of beta testing. Leaking can be a problem but people know to take leaks as less likely real than official statements.

It is very common for the announcements and scheduled release dates to already be out there before the beta starts. All depends on how you define the test and the differences between alpha / beta. I’ve beta tested for companies before where the hardware was already for sale, and it was just the software / firmware changes that needed testing. Less needed for most anker products, but not uncommon. Many are right on that edge, where they are looking for last minute showstoppers, but the hardware design is basically already released to manufacturing. And a few have been effectively alphas, where the hardware design might change noticeably based on tester feedback. But that is less common.

The only design feedback I would give on the current Strike 3s is they could use an option to turn off the lights. Maybe that could even be added in the app, and would be a reason to use the app.

I never really see them for myself (except the mic light), but others on conference calls or walking into my office space would. The crossover use of them as office headphones would be better with that feature.

For the price and comfort, not a problem to use them as is. It isn’t like they are garish or unprofessional, just a little bright.

I know it was delayed because of talking with the product manager. But even more so everything has been delayed to some extent because of the crisis in the world today.

100% agree with that, think I mentioned it to Anker during a previous conversation.
It’s a shame some lose out because the chosen entrants couldn’t participate.

I remember there was an item should be tested with MAC.
The tester got it and was really so honest to say he can not test it, as he got no MAC .

 yep remember that one…

Those are the most honest testers writing true reviews!

I know it’s a select few that get chosen or invited to apply for beta tests, is there a place to put our names in the hat?
