It’s going to be one of those cables you’ll have use for years. So it’s one of the few where a lifetime warranty is worthwhile as all my other Anker cables are not failing just ending up unused, have a collection of Anker A to MicroB cables :frowning:

Me, too. I could use it to charge my Soundcore Liberty 2’s or Q10, but that feels like a bit too much for those two devices.

Indeed I get your point, but do you know anyone who has needed a replacement of a replacement?

I need to investigate what Ankers lifetime warranty actually means.
On brief inspection it states proof of purchase is required for a warranty claim.
I’m assuming the original sales receipt covers the replacement of a replacement as you don’t get a receipt when a cable is replaced.

In general a replacement under warranty carries the remainder of the original warranty but you don’t get a new/full warranty on the replacement item. Not unless you are lucky enough to get a refund and purchase a new item.

I suggest ultimately lifetime is not defined, it is open to Anker’s interpretation, which they can change. I notice use of language of “quality related” so they retain the right to decide it’s excessive use for example.

All quality-related defects on items sold directly by Anker or Anker’s authorized resellers are covered by an extensive warranty, starting from the date of purchase (see top of page for your product’s warranty timeline).

Warranties on all replacements follow the same warranty timeframe of the original defective item, or 3 months after being replaced, whichever is longer.

So a lifetime would therefore apply to the replacement as that is the longer time.

But I doubt lifetime means lifetime, I suspect if you dug and dug it would involve “reasonable efforts” - so they try, but for example if they have no stock, including refurbished, they’d likely just give you a discount off something else as it states.

Exactly how is also documented

"Process:
● Buyer must provide sufficient proof of purchase
● Anker must document what happens when buyers troubleshoot the product
● The defective item’s serial number and/or visible proof depicting the defect are required
● It may be necessary to return an item for quality inspection
● For defective items that Anker needs to have returned, warranties on those replacements are voided if the wrong item is returned to Anker or if the defective item is not returned.

Valid proof of purchase:
● Order number from online purchases made through Anker or Anker’s authorized resellers
● Sales invoice
● Dated sales receipt from an authorized Anker reseller that shows a description of the product along with its price

Agree, they will eventually run out of stock. Though instead of a discount off another product, I imagine they’d send one out free of charge. For example, when they run out of PowerLine II cables, they could offer PowerLine III.

But with current work from home, using with docking station and already have couple of USB-C to -C cables :innocent:

I doubt lifetime means the biological life of the owner. It’s a vague term, effectively as long as they think reasonable.

Nothing else would be allowed by their corporate legal dept as it would then otherwise represent a business liability they’d have to report to the board and if shareholders they’d have to publish to, it would lower the share price based on how many cables sold.

As lifetime is not defined, it’s open to how Anker wish to interpret. I think they mean they reckon the cable will last reasonable use for a long time and if not they’ll send out similar/better until it failed under reasonable use. Unreasonable use is Anker’s interpretation, e.g. rust or wear on the outside.

How I interpret it (we can each interpret it as it’s not defined)

  • Anker is a reasonable successful business, as far as I can tell profitable, there’s no reason to think they’ll fold any time soon.
  • they said lifetime, so if I made a claim a few years and I took high def images showing it was not excessively worn or damage “quality reasons” and I came across as not a jerk, then they’d make reasonable efforts to send me a replacement.
  • so I’m deciding I trust Anker and willing to pay $ extra for “lifetime”.
