Universal Magnetic Car Mount adhesive in Oklahoma heat

my Anker Universal Magnetic Car Mount adhesive failed in the heat.
The adhesive is still stuck to dash, but the mount to other side of that adhesive (where there is foam) failed.
I noticed it is no longer on Amazon.

Anyone else experience this? Is it discontinued?

Items from time to time will not appear on Amazon if they are out of stock, it does not mean its discontinued. But, I have not had this issue with my magnetic mount, it’s been holding strong for almost a year now.

Aside from this, you can always send an email to support@anker.com and let them know your issue.

These are the only items I found that will stick to windshield and not fall off in the heat of summer. Needed for my dashcam mount."

Hey Bill,

I live in Illinois where we can get some pretty hot summers.

I had the adhesive come apart from the Magnetic base. I think the combination of the heat + weight of your phone, plus any herky-jerky taking the phone off the mount. I emailed @AnkerOfficial and their support team was super fast in sending me a new baggy of an adhesive mount and alcohol prep pad.

Make sure to clean the area well and/or put it in a new spot. I also recommend waiting at least 48 hours to let it cure. Now on super hot days, I try not to use it. knowing that it can very easily happen again. I would definitely recommend Anker use some strong 3M adhesives. Although they don’t want to ruin any surfaces that we apply the 3M tape.

Good luck!

Mine failed too but after the second summer of unnatural heat for this area. Typically the adhesive pads on products such as these are actually made by 3M, while strong it’s not a miracle material. I still have the extra pads left Anker includes and may try affixing it somewhere where the pad doesn’t have to uphold the entire weight of my phone. It may hold up for longer then. If not I might have to ditch it for a vent mount, since the Subaru has more durable vents than my Malibu had.

thanks for replies, i’ll take a pic. Vent mounts are no good for me, they block the a/c and I would rather have airflow in 100+ heat than my phone up there. I’ve been using this cup holder mount and have had good results so far.

But i like the option of moving my phone up closer to eye level when using navigation apps

@bill_rae I currently use This mount when using navigation as it puts the phone right in my line of sight, but out of the way. I currently can’t use my magnetic mount due to the type of case I have on my phone as it has ridges on the backside that prevent me from using it.

And the cold a/c air cant hurt. Heat is the enemy. I have a cheap ebay ODBII scanner that only works with the AC blowing cold air onto it. It a cool setup it connected to a small tablet mounted to my dash running an app called Torque to provide all kinds of real-time feedback/detail about what going on with my truck.

Get a better obd scanner, the one I use has no issues working in the heat. I also use Torque

I will when this one kicks the bucket. I only have to run the AC on warmer days and the cheap one the I’m using is tiny that’s good because my odb port is by my gas pedal. I do plan to get a wifi version for faster communication with my tablet and odb extension to relocate the larger Wi-Fi model. But for now running the AC doesn’t bother me

@Jesse_Hernandez1 that’s cool, I use This bluetooth adapter, which allows me to turn it off when not in use but I can leave it plugged in all the time without fear of it draining my battery. I use to use an old elm unit, but that sucker would drain a battery flat overnight. I tore the AC out of my car when I dropped a new motor in it 5 years ago, I’m gonna regret that once I move to North Carolina though haha.

In Texas, just had the same issue. Does anyone know what kind of 3M tape was used so I can buy some and re-apply?

I have had good luck replacing the tape provided by OEMs by using 3M products. You should be able to get a replacement disc or a whole role of the stuff for a few dollars.

The best 3m tape to use is the one that isnt foam. The foam can eventually separate due to heat and weight from the phone.
When I reinstalled mine, I used 50lbs tape which was a nightmare to remove so stick with 10 or even 15 lbs 3m tape
