The missing link in the Anker powerbank lineup

So I was just thinking today, the one product Anker doesn’t have in its lineup are battery cases for Android. I have some of their bigger powerbanks like the PowerCore 13000 and 20000 for when I know I will be needing a lot of juice, like when I am on vacation and out on the town all day. However, sometimes I just want a few thousand more mAh of juice to go out for the night and in those situations, it would be nice to avoid having to carry along another device. Even ultra-portable ones like the PowerCore Mini are an extra thing jangling around in your pocket, with a cable too.

It would be nice to have a slim battery case. I know, there are hundreds of Android phones but maybe they could focus on just the top 3, like Samsung and Google phones. What do you guys think, is there demand for this?

We have asked and asked for this, the problem is Android phones are updated every year and support seemingly dies out with them after the initial launch. Save for the people who actually keep and use their phones for longer than a year. I mean, I am all for Anker making a battery case for the Pixel line up and the Galaxy line, but I doubt we ever will see that happen

With android phones, they literally come in ALL shapes and sizes. Iphone’s however conform to a fixed shape and size to your model through the initial release and S release. For battery cases, they have to not only meet each manufactures general design, but all the different models. Though this is do-able, it is not always very practical to design and produce for each individual model phone, as it only gets used typically for 12-24 months before being changed out with the inability to carry over to your next device. Power cores work with everything and last YEARS. I had an iphone 4S with my first power core and it lasted me to my current 7 model. Id still have it if I didn’t leave it on a Southwest Jet in California last year. I will tell you that a steward or stewardess is still using it today somewhere above the US.

What I really want to see is a battery/ battery case with Solar trickle charging.

Actually, every single phone conforms to a fixed shape and size, not just iPhones. It’s just that there is more fragmentation in the Android market, so there aren’t many individual models which ship as many units as iPhones. The only one I can think of is Samsung’s Galaxy line, which may actually sell better than iPhones, I believe. Obviously, each battery case needs to be designed for a specific phone and that makes it less economical than external powerbanks. And yet, there is definitely demand for battery cases, as many companies do make them.

Isn’t that what I was getting at? I agree there is a demand, but from a business stand point, do you want to make 100 different models of a case that do the same thing as one universal unit that does it as well, but cheaper. All the tooling and manufacturing components to create an entire line of products increases your unit cost than opting to have just one basic design to bring to market. The other problematic thing with battery cases is that they tend to be exponentially more expensive than your run of the mill external battery. Not to take away from the “I wish there was a battery case” idea, but in the end it’s about what’s going to make you the most money. I’ve seriously looked at battery cases for my iPhone, but they are almost $100.

If someone wanted to make a modular case for which you could insert or attach a battery…you might actually get a bite from a company like Anker.

Not only that but Anker doesn’t even sell cases for iPhone 7/8/X anymore either.

No need, fast charging and a powerbank with the same fast charging, why make the phone bigger all the time when you can just connect to a Powercore when not being used.

There are different phone models in the market, it’s hard to fit consumer’s all demands on phone battery case.
The cost of research and development for each product is large, so if a product is sold badly, we will face losses. So we are more inclined to produce some best-selling products.

But still thank you for your suggestion.:hugging:

I agree with @nigelhealy on this. There is no need to increase the size of a phone in order to get a longer battery life when 20 min on quick charge can give you hours of phone life now.

When I had my Samsung Alpha, the then S? model outsold then turn iphone model by quite a bit.

Which also happened to about the time iPhone started suing Samsung. Strange considering it uses Samsung’s chips.

I think it was to do with a slightly older Samsung that looked similar to iPhone and outsold it hands down. Oops

Samsung premium phones, model for model often outsold iPhones. Which is why I gripe so much at companies pandering to iPhone so much, when they’re not the best selling phone.

Yes, apple sheep do tend to hold on to their phones more, generally due to the next model not being different enough.

For me it would be interesting to have a graphic which shows for which use the bank is good. Because I don’t get the difference between Astron and the other series.

Wonderful idea. I am on board

I have two phones, a OnePlus 3T and a Moto G4 Play. The OnePlus has DASH charging, the Moto has a removable battery.

When I am entering the situation of “stressed” access to power I take the Moto. These are days like i know I do not need a tablet, i will be using the phone a lot and barely any access to wall sockets. I take then the Moto. I bought a spare replacement battery so I can leave power with just the phone and a charged spare battery and about 3 days of usage. When I combine that phone with say solar panel I have indefinate power as it only takes 2 hours of decent sunshine to get to 2 days of power, so if I enter say 3-4 days of wet days I drain the two batteries and eventually a sunny day happens then recharge them both.

Most days though I am near a wall socket nearly all the time, away from power say 2-3 hours in the day and the phone can easily last that time and then I can use the DASH charger to recharge very quickly in a few minutes.

A typical phone case is in the $3-$20 region and a typical Anker powerbank of the size you’d use with a phone is $10-$20 region. That powerbank I can use for everything like my smartwatch, buds, etc

Phones are already too big and that seems to be getting worse if you want to be non-techy just for speaking if someone phones a low-end phone lasts a very long time. If you do want to be techy you’re likely with a bag and carry a Powercore, charger or I still quite like a 8" tablet as near Wifi and so then the phone lasts easily all day.
