Does anyone know how to tell what the battery level of the earbuds are? I can tell what the case power is by the three indicator lights, but how do you know what the status of the earbuds are?

For me Samsung Note 9 running Android 9.0
I believe the headphone battery status is visible when useing Android 7 and above, I also believe the same is true with iOS device above iOS version 11 but could be available on iOS 10 I’m not sure and feeling lazy.
There are apps that will give you the same ability if running an older operating system.

I believe the only way to display the battery level for the earbuds is to use the device that the earbuds are connected to. I can only speak for iOS devices here…
To enable this data to be displayed, you need to use the built-in iOS widget called “Batteries”. To use this widget, swipe all the way right from the Home Screen to the Widget screen. Scroll all the way down to the Edit button and tap it. Find the Batteries widget in the list, tap on the green “+” to add it to the active Widgets list, then be sure and tap “Done” at the upper-right of the screen.
Now when a Bluetooth device is connected you your device, it’s battery level will be displayed when you access the Widgets screen (swipe all the way right from the Home Screen)

I have an iphone X running iOS 12.3.1. It seems like the battery widget has been removed

my goodness, i never got this much help so quick. you taught me alot today Dude, i mixed up notifications and widgets. I GOT IT!!! the battery indicator works!!!

tl;dr version:
If you’re on an iOS device looking for the battery level of the ear buds, swipe left from your first desktop screen to get to the ‘Today View’ This is where news, Siri Suggestions, stock info etc lives. Scroll to the bottom of this page to edit what shows here, there should be an option for ‘Batteries’ (might be at the bottom of the list, it was for me) once you add this, it will display the battery life of your connected bluetooth devices!
