Soundbuds tag sound drop out

Hi,

I’m encountering a strange issue with a pair of Soundbuds Tag earphones and would be grateful for any suggestions from the forum. The earbuds are paired to a Oneplus 3T (Android 8.0.0, Oxygen OS 5.0.1) and when I’m using them at home they work fine, no stuttering or loss of sound.

As soon as I try to use them outside the house, the sound starts to stutter and jump, and then eventually drops out. I initially wondered whether this was data/connection related, but it does the same with both listening to things saved on the device (e.g. downloaded podcasts), or streaming music from Spotify. It happens within a few metres of leaving the house if I’ve started something playing before I leave. When I come back through the door I usually hear the ‘beep’ like the earbuds have re-connected to the phone, and then the sound will come back to normal, although the bluetooth seems to stay paired throughout on the phone.

I’m going to try and pair them with a different phone later and see if the same issue arises, but in the interim has anyone got any suggestions of settings to change or things to try on my own device?

Thanks

Your looking at an inherit problem with bluetooth. Once outdoors you have a vast array of things that can cause interference, one of them being the openness of the outdoors. One thing you can try and do is see if there is an update for the bluetooth radio on your phone as well as unpair/clear bluetooth cache/ and then repair and see if it still happens

Have you tried unpairing it, and repairing it only when you are already outdoors?

Might sound strange, but it worked with me on the earphones I use for running - not an Anker. A friend of mine suggested and I thought it was a strange idea, but it didn’t hurt to try.

Also, if you use the buds with more than one device, it’s also a good idea to unpair any device that’s not the one you will actually use it with in that moment. The earphones might be trying to connect with other device that’s inside the house and just drop everything once that device is out of range. Unfortunately, Bluetooth pairing still lacks the intelligence to perceive which device is sending the music and prioritize it.

@elmo41683 @tiagomota Thanks for your response. @andy_s Let’s try some troubleshooting here:

  1. Please try resetting the headphone by pressing + & - together for 2s as well as restarting your device. Then try pairing with your device again.

  2. Have you tried fully charged the headphone (until the indicator turns off)?

  3. Please make sure there is no interference between the Anker headphone and your device, such as walls, pillars, home appliances, a Wi-Fi modem, etc.

If this issue persists, could you please contact support@anker.com with your serial number and order number? We will cover an 18-month warranty regarding any quality issue related. Thanks.

It seems I’ve a similar problem.

  • at the 1st connect the sound is stuttering for several seconds until it stabilizes
  • from time to time the sounds drop while the bluetooth connections stays connected, means the phone continues playing the sound over its speaker instead of the soundbuds
  • if I switch bluetooth off and on again the connection reestablishes(with the typical stutter) and the sound switches back to the soundbuds
  • this only happens with a Huawei phone with Android 8.0, not with a Sony running Android 8.1

Sounds like it’s more of an issue with the Huawei phone than it is with the soundbuds. Try clearing your bluetooth cache, restart the ohone and repair the soundbuds and see if that fixes your problem

Was thinking the same maybe change a phone and give a try.

don’t really think so as it is working fine with a couple of different bluetooth headsets and speakers, it’s only the Soundbuds that have this strange behavior.

You said it works fine with the sony but not the other phone hence why i said its an issue with that particular phone itself. Try to troubleshoot as I mentioned above and see if it resolves itself
