Quarantined how are you spending your time?

No there are winners and losers with this, people working from home has grown some industries like Internet, networking.

I was working in the university for more than 45 years.
We were doing “teleteaching” since many years.
Was more for those who could not take part at the lessons.
The first time we were afraid that no one of the students would show up in the auditorium…
But was not true; they were coming as usual.
They used the recordings for repeating.

My first left handed neighbour is teacher for mechanical engineering.
It was pretty hard for him to hold lessons via internet.
But he managed.
My other left handed neighbour is working for MS.
He is used to do his work from home, no probs for him at al.
Business as usual, he told me
A friend of mine is working for Google and he is still “outsourced” 'til next year.
But he doesn’t like, he told me, the personal contact is very important for him.
Human beings are social creatures. No hermits.

That’s a great news!! Wish I too had received similar call :frowning: (things not looking so bright here though)

It is better to complete work in office and come back home to relax… as of now, it looks like work never ends and relaxation never starts … its a endless loop, like a phone / pc stuck in boot-loop

True words my friend.
Even for those who got mental support from their families its hard enough.
But the others?

So the scientists are not for the relaxing of lockdown because too many are still infectious and there’s a 5 week lag from letting people mix more and the deaths that causes. So UK is going through a major relaxing next week so expect UK deaths to go up late August. The question is then what happens.

My suspicion is so many people are fed up it will be a “so?” View and just let the inevitable happen. So the opposite of the clamour in March.

So just lots of exercise and positive thoughts and cross fingers through coming winter.

As long people maintain the physical distancing and practice good hygiene, hand washes,… , things should get better, if not reduce the spread. Govt may be doing the start-stop-watch process, and if the cases increase, stop the re-opening

I am seeing a lot of people here very lax, not wearing masks, which may be contributing to increase in cases, it has been going bad in california…

Here too.
Parties etc. Too bad, those … have not recognized what is going to happen.

So there is a full spectrum of beliefs.

At one extreme is this is all a hoax, hyped, exaggerated, etc. The other extreme is we’re all going to die horribly. Most people are in the middle trying to see the balance of evidence and risk. The we’re-all-doomed type were clamoring for lockdown til they got it, the ignore-it then clamoring for lockdown to end til they get it.

The rate of infection will increase, but the uncertainty is how great and impact. The we’re-all-doomed type will be itching for any uptick as justification to get back to lockdown.

And so the pendulum swings again. My guess is the majority in the middle are weary and want the whole topic dropped, ended, had enough, so I think the pro-lockdown will be ignored more than they were last time.

There are winners and losers. Winners are those who predict and get aligned with the most probable outcomes. The losers are either denialists or the inflexible.

My own view is more people are more practised and fewer bad habits, the vulnerable can only be killed once, and the 2nd wave will not be as steep as the 1st wave and , yes, we’ll probably be fine, but the we’re-all-doomed crowd will be highly vocal.

For now its working from home with the possibility of returning beginning of August.
We weren’t a “working from home” company before.
But we proved we can be effective, so hopefully this paves the way to working from home to benefit staff for childcare and repair/maintenance visits etc.

The office has seen very little action over the last 3 months.
Only the last month 2 people only have been in.
1 that looks after stock so he has been preparing the engineers stock and the other is our service coordinator, he has only been in the office as he literally lives up the road.

So hopefully @Chiquinho my desk and seat is intact, although I’m sure a little dusty :+1:t2:

Shame the picture isn’t so good with you mate.

100% @Shenoy Debs has been working from home throughout, she’s in HR so has obviously been busy.
She finding it difficult walking out of the dining room and being “home from work”, the separation has been tough. As the weather has been amazing, i get Charlie ready so when Debs finishes her work we immediately get out and walk or cycle for an hour to help with that.

I always knew the USA was inherently vulnerable to a pandemic. There is a a lethal mix of no central healthcare system, laws are local, borders between states are open, free speech ( = can say anything even untruths) and lots and lots of guns.

The guns part hasn’t even started. But ultimately, USA will be fine as many low-density population areas and vast majority of people are very friendly.

What did you teach if you don’t mind me asking?

Yeah here in the US its pretty rough especially since some people deny that the pandemic is really happening and others are acting like its the end of the world. To opposite ends of the spectrum and seems like no one agrees these days.

A conclusion will always find its own facts. There’s always someone who thinks any particular way, it’s only if they move out of a niche of

As a scientist (belief in evidence based logical derivation as best source of truth) I never really got too far past the clean hands, keep distance, sneeze into elbow, stay in your bed if feel unwell, and wait’n’see. I not moved from that now for 5 months.

Haven’t stopped working. Seldom in the office but am today. Home office is in the basement- monitored by my recently received Indoor Pan & Tilt cam. Work in IT for a (primarily) alcoholic beverage distributor so while sales in some cases have slowed, in others they’ve picked up.
