PowerDraw winner's participation

I am new around here. I just want to point out something to @AnkerOfficial that I believe needs to be improved upon.

Quite frankly, Anker is holding the PowerDraw in order to achieve higher forum users and create a great community experience for all of us. It is good for Anker, and it is good for the end-user who gets a prize in the end. I have just examined the winners of the powerdraw going back many months. What I have saw (with exceptions, of course) is this pattern.

  1. Users register.
  2. Users enter the powerdraw.
  3. Users win the powerdraw.
  4. Users leave the forum and no longer contribute.

My suggestion, which will help Anker achieve higher forum activity, is to not allow users to enter the powerdraw until a certain threshold of account activity is achieved in order to ensure that the user is going to stay after he/she finds out what happens in the PowerDraw. Now, the PowerDraw has served it’s purpose, and I have seen many users win that are still active to this day. What I do not like seeing is people joining just to try to win, and then getting out right after.

If you believe I am incorrect about my PowerDraw pattern. Go look for yourself at the winner’s profiles. A good 50% of them have 2 minutes read time, and have posted nothing. One of the users I saw posted one comment. ‘Have I won?’.

I believe it will be in Anker’s best interest as well as the end-user’s best interest to vet the people who enter into the PowerDraw a little better. In the end, if you want a large amount of inactive users, keep the current system. If you want a strong community of interested and dedicated fans, you may need to reevaluate the system.

All of this is clearly my opinion, and I do not seek to stir the pot whatsoever. I just think some revisions may be necessary for the longevity of the forum as a whole.

Yes, that is me because at first many I presented an idea to the forum and it was great. I got much feedback from people and it helped me design more ideas. But when school started I focused more on my studies than being an active user. At the end of this year, I wanted to check back on my forum to see if anything happened but nothing did. I looked on top of your website and there was a power draw. I never clicked on it, so I did. I entered the giveaway knowing that I won’t win. But I did. I was excited and forgot to be an active user. I am sorry.

You don’t need to be sorry. I wouldn’t call you an example of the people I am talking about.

I mean literally people posting NOTHING. At least you have a track record, and it is clear you are still active because you responded to my post right now.

For example, take a look at @Brandon_Panitz. I am not calling this person out nor should I because I do not know who they are or what their life is like. It is simply an example.

This user has four minutes of read time. No topics or comments created. Basically nothing. However, this user won a 50+ dollar Anker solar panel. See where I am coming from? Anker, by extension, spent money for this user’s non-existent activity.

That is why I think the system needs to be improved. People with a legitimate reason to leave, be my guest. People that simply don’t care but win anyways, that’s where my problem is.

@TheManWithTheBattery This has been mentioned several times by members of the community during various ‘forum restructure threads’ & a few others which would not be overly apparent. Simple thing is, with any giveaway or prize winning opportunity, is that Anker are trying to raise and expand their profile to a wider audience.

Yes it’s frustrating when you have a ‘fly by night’ member snagging a really cool item (ala the Flare etc) or signing up once (or multiple) for a prize win but in the long run if that one person happens to be seen by or let’s x10, x20 or x30 people use the product, that is additional brand recognition for Anker and therefore possible future customers…

I completely agree it is good for brand recognition. I just thought that Anker would be displeased with rhe results of the PowerDraw, but it sounds like it is going according to plan.

Thank you for your insite.

Also don’t forget that in order to gain bucks to attempt to win a prize you do have to contribute to the forum. So they might be fly by night users once they win but they had to put some work in to winning the prize. Also if they only build enough bucks to enter once they are getting extremely lucky when it comes time to win the prize. Most of these drawings have at least 100 entries. I think it’s set up fairly balanced.

People are given PowerBucks to spend upon creation of their account. No posting would be needed to enter the PowerDraw upon registration.

I didn’t realize that, I joined before the bucks were awarded upon registration. Good to know and I can see your point.

It’s really hard to police the winners of giveaways like this. I think it ends up being more along the lines of giveaway envy when someone suggests that others don’t deserve an item they fairly won. There’s always next time, folks!

For me it’s just fun to take part.
I was a lucky winner, I never thought this could happen,
because I never have luck in those lotteries.

But I think this is much more an opportunity to catch newbies.
And this is good for us and our “company”

It’s not envy in my case. I am also not saying that others don’t deserve their prizes. They won fair and square. I just believe that users should have to participate some before entering the draw.

We would love to see these users come back and stay active with the community! While it’s true that a new user receives PowerBucks upon registration, it is only 10 PowerBucks. That’s usually enough for only one entry into one of the prizes (some of them must be really lucky!).

Do I know you from somewhere Ryan? I used to work on SSH consoles and FTP stuff. I did the 2048bit encryption transfer if that helps you remember.

Maybe I am mistaken, but you never know.

I also joined before they gave bucks for signing up, so I had the same confusion about being able to enter without any effort/involvement.

It seems a little unfair to longtime community member that they didn’t give everyone who already had an account bucks when they added the sign-up bonus. Though I guess it’s only 10, so it doesn’t give them too much of an advantage.

How can we see the read time? I do agree with some of your points. I thought that you have to contribute in order to get the points to even enter the drawings. Maybe the PowerDraw is a random drawing in which a winner is just a random pick and people get lucky.

You can get 70 bucks a week just by login in everyday. You don’t have to post anything and can have a couple of entries a week.

I think you meant points.

Oh Eye. That’s what I meant. So can level up easy at the start and get bucks too.
