I have noticed that the PowerCore fusion is being reviewed on YouTube by various YouTubers. I wonder if the Poweruser program is now obsolete, as there has not been any samples since October 2016.
Powercore Fusion on YouTube
There were samples offered Dec 21st for Canada. Three new items but very few quantities. judging by the number of reviews on Amazon.ca I would say less than 10 of each.
I don’t think as many things will be offered via the Power User section anymore due to Amazon’s recent changes. Likely Anker will reach out directly to YouTube and Social media users with large followings and/or backgrounds in reviewing to ensure better coverage.
Would be nice to have a community update from @AnkerOfficial as to how the Power User program will be used going forward as past information has come from direct emails by community members, with slightly different variations as to what will become of the program…
I am sure they are having a difficult time trying to figure out a way to not have 300000 unhappy Anker forum members. Their product line could take a HUGE hit.
“Welcome to the site, join us, talk about us, drink the koolaid…Bam”!
From the slightest of information I think this is the replacement program
Well you see what happens when you don’t dominate initial reviews with the Powerusers program, you get very few reviews and they are on average negative.
Take for example the Fusion, 4 reviews and an average of 3.9/5.
Arguably Amazon is right, if you want to make a fair review you want it not with the front-loaded Anker powerusers, but I also see negative reviews can be unfair on Anker as its sometimes a dud unit (addressed by support) or they just don’t like it. In the case of the Fusion, which I own (bought with $ !), I see its pros/cons but I could not say its cons deserve a less than 5, more needing a nuanced “if you needs are xxxx… then yyyy”.
I would have to agree, lots of people give 1 star because something is DOA and that’s not fair to the product and a lot of people don’t post reviews unless they have issues with something. “If it works why bother telling anyone”
I personally would like to see amazon split the reviews for each product into promoted reviews and non promoted reviews then you could choose which to accept. In my opinion the promoted reviews may be a more sophisticated review. Example, the person doing the promoted review may have 10 power packs so they can distinguish which is better whereas the non promoted person probably only owns one and has nothing to base their like of the product on except if it works or doesn’t work. The only issue I have with discounted or free reviews is the time pressure form dealers. I sometimes can’t give the overall test needed in one to two weeks so I often post updates whether good or bad to reviews several weeks after the initial post
Of course Amazon has the vine program that puts a wrench into everything logical.
I would prefer review scores to be segregated into quality, matching the claims, from opinion. An item which breaks often, or does not do what is claimed. is more important to know than say you just don’t like the color, or is the wrong product to your problem. There are objective views and subjective views and to have 1 score is unfair.
I am also against giving out free / deeply discounted items to cause large bias views.
I would rather see the Poweruser program to be a beta-test program to give pre-launch prototypes for field trials to test a product and virtually shake it to pieces to tweak product before made in volume.
So overall I disagree with everything, with Amazon who allow a subjective merged with objective score to cause basically a low quality score, with Anker needing to cancel out the random opinion generator of Amazon customers via swamping it with lots of Powerusers, and with the Poweruser program itself being basically too late in the design cycle.
I do not review as a hobby or as a source of getting deeply discounted kit. I live a life out there reliant on products working and so I’m much more interested in reliability and performance, and performance matching the claims, so I can rely on it and carry less spare excess to handle failure.
I am now into a period where I am stationary only 8 days of 45 days and I’m putting down a lot of air miles and hotel nights and I’m not burning the candle both ends via making moving time my active time so I’m draining electricity all the time either battery or mains. So I just want useful opinions relating to reliability and performance.
So if I need to fill a corner of my gadget ecosystem, I do the online investigation, then check reviews if they exist, and form a probabilistic outcome and then buy. I then stress test at home where I’d prefer to know it fails before reliant on it, then it goes into actual road use. So it would take me say a minimum of 2 days to do a basic home test to check item is working and to explore product limits, but then it could take me weeks to form a more rounded road use opinion. So in a Powercore case its fully charge, fully discharge into discharged devices from which I can infer actual useful output, in the Powerport it is attach discharge devices to the Wattage limit claimed. For example the USB-C port on the Powerport5, I know isn’t the 3A claimed, but its still usefully in the 2.1A region. I see your problem if you’re being asked to form a view in a short time, it would be difficult to do much depth.
In the case of the Fusion, it is a compromise product, trading doing 1 thing well for 2 things less well, as such the opinion about it is very dependent on the use case context. It risks being therefore one of the must subjective opinions. Probably any YT review would struggle to form a rounded opinion, perhaps show its relative size, relative Mah, relative Amps to allow a potential buyer to decide if a fit for them.
Hi @ndalby, thanks for your great concern for our Power User Program. We have suspended this program for some time and we are planning the next step for the program now. Please be assured that we will update on our community as to how the Power User Program will go forward. Thanks for your understanding!
