PowerCore Elite III 87w, what charger can recharge it at the 100W max speed?

Resolved myself, it actually works but limited to a certain range of charge level, see replies below
Graph of how Tesla “fast charge” closely matches what I can see on this power bank.

On the back of the power bank it says 20V/5A input max. Attempted with a PowerLine II (5A), and AUKEY 100W over an inline power meter shows the power bank recharges from 0 using only ~20V/3A (60w). Not planning on buying the 100W 4 port from Anker since my only device uses 100w is the power bank. Any other recommendation? Apple 96W might do the job but it’s also as expensive.

Was the Powercore empty when you measured?

60W in considering 87W out would make sense, usually in is less than out by of that order of ratio. So I’m like you skeptical of the claim of 100W. But it is also normal to consume more when empty, less when nearer full, so it might be 100W is true but only when empty, then cuts back as it approaches full.

Haha, it did it.
PCE III was empty when I measured it and it eventually did go up to 20V/5A around 30-50 charging. Speed is fast beyond believe.

Here’s the actual pic of it doing 20V/5A, couldn’t post it in one reply cuz I’m new user

That is some serious power for USB. I look forward to seeing that sort of capacity showing up in a lot more devices soon!

Maybe finally Anker will make a graphene enhanced power bank? Boasting 15 minutes of charge enough for a day?

Amen.

Graphene is more expensive, so I’d expect to see it in flagship phones first so they wired recharge fast, then in portabe chargers.

Not wanting to denegrate the product but personally I prefer just to own two slower, as then i have a spare and i’m not that fussed by speed. Two 20000 PD 18W are $50 if you’re patient.

Oh I am not patient at all lol. I actually have a 20k18w, used mostly back when I’m packing lightly. Problem with it is, it refuses to recharge on my tiny 20w Aukey usb c adapter. (Yes Anker if you released your 20w foldable plug earlier I would’ve gone with that). Shows receiving 15v but current is always near 0.
That Aukey itself has no issue with any other device, and the 20k18w has no issue with anything else except…
when I try to charge my MacBook Air with it, only ~12w is available and only half of its capacity is useable, if the power bank drops below 50% MacBook Air will only show plugged in not charging.
Patience is a virtue but when it gets in the way of productivity I ain’t patient no more

I doubt a 60W charger would be much slower than 100W charger.

Because the 100W is not for the whole charge period.

Anker makes some small 60W chargers.

Yes, we’re all highly puzzled why no 100W Anker chargers, they have been able to make them for at least 3 months, the hardware has existed for a year, so plenty of time for reliability and cost reduction.

My travel laptop is 18W and lasts quite some hours and I can get by with these:

Probably the above charger can do my replacement to my laptop when it dies, 45W port, drops to 30W when the 18w port is also used. 45W is a common laptop need, 30W usually enough to keep charged once charged.

If I am entering an expected prolonged period without power, I plug in the Powercore at the start, that’s the most efficient, gets the most total hours of usage. You understand why? If you discharge the Powercore into the laptop’s battery, so Powercore recharges laptop, then there is additional energy wasted in the chemical process of recharging the laptop’s battery. However, if you proactivey plug in the Powercore to a fully charge laptop, then the laptop will drain the Powercore, then it’s internal battery so that additional waste is avoided. As such , you don’t need a high wattage Powercore, but one just powerful enough to keep up.

I mean, Anker do make a 100w charger, but being four ports and priced at above stock 96w apple charger. Since I’m only going to use a single port of it for the max power, it did not make sense to me

But very true, I should let the laptop use the power bank first. (And again here’s the annoying part that the 20k18w refuses to provide enough power for laptop when it’s 50% below)

That’s impressive. I’m now thinking about replacing my small travel computer with a computer that can charger with one of these.

well, if you are a Mac user, this power bank can prop up the biggest 16" pro (and everything smaller)

I’m not a mac user. I’ve use them in the past and now that its time to replace my travel computer I want to make the switch. Now that most of my work can be done on a Mac I want to make the switch.

Do it, as a M1 MacBook Air owner I have no issues on doing work/school on it. Albeit mostly light work but it just does it so well and last so long.
Or wait for M2/M1X refresh on a more pro model later this year.
