PowerCore+ and PowerPort 5+ never shutting down

Hi!
I got an Anker PowerPort 5+ (the one with 1 USB-C PD), and when I connect different devices to the USB-A ports, they charge up to 100% but they never stop charging for some reason. With any other USB charger, the devices shut down when they’re fully charged stop draining power from the charger, and leds change to signal fully charged (or the icon of the plug instead of the lightning appears in the iphone). But with this wall charger, the devices never reach that fully charged state.

Is this normal behaviour or do I have a faulty unit?

Thanks!

Update: Alongside the PowerPort 5+ I bought a PowerCore+ 26800, and I am seeing the exact same behaviour with the powercore: USB devices charge perfectly fast, they just never stop charging.

I have tested this with 4 devices:
iPhone 6s+
Apple Watch 2
Jbl Bluetooth speaker
Sony MP3 player

And with 3 different original Apple usbA-lightning cables and 2 different UsbA-microUSB. I have also tested it in 2 different outlets.

With every combination the result is the same: the gadgets charge perfectly fast from both the PowerCore and the PowerPort, but never finish charging. As soon as I connect them to any other non Anker USB charger or powerbank, the battery/plug icon appears, and the device stops charging as it should.

Any ideas? It is impossible that both units are defective so I guess this is the Anker standard behaviour? Would someone be able to confirm?

Thanks a lot!

This is normal because not all devices report to the charging device when it is fully charged hence why it still says chaging even when the devices reach 100 percent

Hi @johnpdoe,

It’s not really possible to overcharge most gadgets, as they’ll stop drawing power when they’re done.
I’m curious as to what leads you to believe they are still charging?
For example, on iPhones, the charge indicator (lighting symbol) is always displayed while plugged in, even at 100%.

Are you referring to the LED on the Anker charger changing from blue to green? On the newer chargers, the LEDs stay one color (they do not change when charging has finished).

Thanks for the quick response guys!.

@TechnicallyWell I’m afraid I have to disagree here. The iPhone for example, displays the lightning icon next to the battery icon as long as the battery is being charged and the phone is drawing power. After the phone is fully charged; the lightning disappears and the battery icon displays a plug symbol inside it, indicating that the phone is plugged in but not charging. The Apple Watch for example behaves in the same way.

Other devices (like the PowerCore) have a set of flashing LEDs that will flash while the device is charging and drawing power. This is the case on my jbl speaker. Once the speaker is fully charged, all LEDs turn off.

With both the PowerCore and the PowerPort, my usb devices never reach that fully charged state.

So my conclusion is that this must be some standard behaviour of the PowerIQ, but it’d be great if I could have some confirmation that this is the case.

@elmo41683 all my usb devices have previously stopped charging when they’re full regardless of the charger being an official one, or a generic one. In fact, is this not part of the usb standard?

Thanks!

What are your testing methods?
Are you using your devices while charging?

I noticed if I let my iphone plug in the PowerCore, when it was fully charged, the LED is off. Iphone it self didn’t have a icon saying it is full, no charging. All it has was a 100% and if you plugged in, there is a signal next to the battery.
