Powercore 20000PD extremely slow charge | 3A/5v

I bought an Anker Powercore 20000PD from Wal Mart and it didn’t come with a charging brick.

I purchased the Anker Quick Charge 3.0 18W wall charger ( https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerPort-Compatible-Qualcomm-Certified/dp/B077HFFLMS/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=3+amp+wall+charger&qid=1560818761&s=wireless&sr=1-2)

I read that the device should take around 4 hours for PD charger, which I don’t have, and around 20 hours for a normal charger. I assume Anker means 1-2A for ‘normal.’ Mine is 3A, but still takes about 10 hours to charge 25%.

Is my device defective?

PowerCore 20000PD mentions re-charging speed of 4hrs provided the input to USC-PD is rated at 5V=3A,9V=3A,15V=2A,20V=1.5A

The charger you use provides 3.6-6.5V / 3A, 6.5-9V / 2A, 9-12V / 1.5A

Believe its using the least of the rating 1.5A to charge it, hence the extended charging time, its more of charging incompatibility causing these extended times. If you had a USB-C / USB charging meter you could measure the charging rate.

Also try to write to support@anker.com to get official response on why this is happening.

I don’t have either of these but others on community can write more on it

You need a Power Delivery charger to charge it more quickly. Here’s a great option.

If your charger is still within the return period, plan to return it and buy the PowerPort Atom PD1 as suggested above by Insider

The PowerCore 20000PD does not use Quick Charge 3.0 so with the charger you mentioned you will only get a max charge rate of 2.4A…which should still get you above 25% in the timeframe you mentioned. Have you tried resetting the unit to see if charge speeds are improved?

To benefit from the best charge rate however you need a PD charger like the one mentioned by @Insider

Right, totally understood that I can’t charge as quickly as possible without the PD–but the 2.4a charge rate should charge the device faster than it is, at least I think. Do you know how I can perform a reset on this device?

You should be able to reset the PowerCore by looping the output and input ports, this normally performs an internal reset.

As for charge times with 2.4A, I would think around 15hrs to full but certainly above 25% within several hours as a test…
