Pixel?

So, what’s people’s thoughts on the two pixel phones Google have announced?
Personally I rather like them. I’ve preordered one to replace my Nexus 5. - 5" , Black, 32gb
The unlimited photo and video storage sealed the deal for me, even though it was more expensive than I really wanted to pay for a phone.
I’m very pleased they have kept the specs the same between the two sizes. I’m a fan of the 4.7"-5.2" screens as they fit in pockets easier!

Anyone else preordered one?

Just moved into the iOS ecosystem (for phones) so I am not in a hurry to jump back so soon. But the specs on the phone certainly look sweet for the price…

The Google Pixel phones look interesting with the camera as one of its biggest selling point. However, the price is a bit more than what I would like to pay.

Hope I don’t offend anyone, but the “Really Blue” color option is just hideous…

I really wanted to like them. But I can’t because of the somewhat generic design and crazy price tag. Google’s Nexus line was known for being affordable and also top-spec. We all know the Pixel can be much cheaper and they’ll still make money, the Nexus 5X and 6P for example were and still are flagship phones but at half the price of what the Pixel phones want.

I’m on the fence with Android, I recently got a cheap android to test out the OS and I’m not that impressed. I don’t like how everything seems so segregated. I have an app for voicemail, an app for making phone calls and an app for contacts. I like everything to be unified. Maybe I just don’t have the right apps? Also i don’t like the bloatware that came with it that I cannot uninstall only disable. I’m leaning back towards iPhone again.

It’s just not there yet. No water resistance and no front facing speakers are the main things holding me back.

I’m simply not prepared to pay that price for a phone, so everything else is irrelevant.

If I were to be willing to pay that price then if I look alongisde other phones at the same price, the specs look incomplete, lacking features other phones for the same price.

How cheap is cheap?

Comparing a £600+ phone to a £150 phone is not a fair comparison I would say. Apps on Android are all separate as it allows people to customise as much of the phone as they want. As well as being easier for the developers to patch and upgrade the software of the phone. Android itself is pretty much made up of hundreds of “apps”. It is just a simple way of managing things.
However that does not make things sandboxed. If you open the phone app, you can search for your contacts from it if you like, put favourite contacts on your quick dial screen etc. You don’t need to go into the contacts app.

Bloatware, well that depends on which brand of phone you got. I agree, on the likes of samsung phones there is way to much bloatware.

If you want a better comparison without outlaying a lot of cash, I’d recommend picking up a Nexus 5X. That runs “pure” android. So the way google intended it to be. No bloat ware.
