Phone not recognizing PowerIQ 2?

Relatively new to the forums, sorry if this isn’t the proper format

I recently bought the Powercore II Slim 10000, enticed by the idea of being able to quick charge most of my devices using one port rather than different dedicated ports for QC devices.

I unboxed the Powercore last night and let it fully charge, but when I tested it out this morning, my phone indicated that it was charging regularly (not on Quick Charge). I waited for an hour and sure enough, it hadn’t charged as quickly as with a QC port. I decided to check with other cables and a different QC enabled Powercore, and the phone charged quickly as expected.

My question is this: since PowerIQ 2 is a separate charging protocol from Quick Charge, should my phone notify me that the cable is fast charging, (in which case, my power bank is malfunctioning) or does it normally not display any message while charging at higher speed?

(On an unrelated note the USB port seems to have a bad contact out of the box but that’s a separate issue, when I held it in a certain position it made contact but still charged slow)

First, if you are having to hold a cable at a certain angle in would get rid of that cable. 90 percent of the time it’s the cable that is the issue and not the charging source.

Second, what phone do you have that you are trying to fast charge?

Seconding what @elmo41683 has mentioned, a new cable would be a good start and some information on what devices you are hoping to fast charge…

Unless I am mistaken, the Powercore II Slim 10000 is capable of being recharged with QC, not that it can charge a phone by way of QC. The description isnt totally clear, stating that the recharge time for the device is 4 hours with QC, meaning the power pack can go from 0 to full in 4 hours.

If it were a QC capable output it would be labeled as such, IQ is always reserved for non quick charge capable outlets. See blow for the Anker powerspeed 10000 that is made for QC:

I do believe you don’t have the right power bank for what you want to accomplish in this instance, IQ is fast but not near as fast as QC. Also, my LG V35 will not tell me I am fast charging unless I use a QC 3.0 capable charger.

The op is refferencing the fact that Power Iq 2.0 is just as fast as quick charge in that it can output 18w. So he is correct in with the battery pack he has having iq 2.0, but it’s dependent on the device he is trying to charge whether or not it will ramp up and fully utilize that power, hence why it’s important to know what device he is trying to charge

@Monk3e if you used a power IQ 2.0 port your phone would show it’s fast charging as reported by others

I tried a 3rd cable, which is now properly fast charging the phone. The cables are working perfectly elsewhere, but it seems like all the cables I try are not properly seated, and if the USB port moves, it still does not seat properly and shifts easily.

The phone in question is the Moto G5 Plus, which can take up to Quick Charge 3 according to the manufacturer

Updates so far:

I have tried a 3rd and 4th cable (all Powerline+) and so far it seems that my phone is recognizing the Quick Charge protocol (in Moto G5 Plus, it refers to it as TurboPower but they are the same) and is now charging at 18W. I have discovered that the phone does in fact display the proper message “TurboPower Connected”

However the USB port continues to be a bit finicky, as the connection tends to unseat with little effort. This issue has persisted with all the cables I have tried so far.

[Update update] As I was writing this, (I have not touched the cable or the phone) I checked the phone and it seems like it is charging at low speed again. The Micro-USB connection is a snug fit, and it seemed like the USB end was fully in (although it does stick out a bit, but that happens with most chargers so I don’t know how much of a role this plays)

@laurelwolf77 can you please upload a picture of the powerbank and the port on the powerbank that you are connecting to ?

You should clean the ports : phone and pb.

@laurelwolf77

Sounds like you have a faulty USB output port on the PowerCore, as you should have very little give once your USB cable is connected, that combined with the varying power output your getting. Possibly solder has given way on one of the USB pins, giving intermittent connection.

I would advise you reach out to support@anker.com with your issue and troubleshooting steps taken so far. Including a photo of the port with the issue should also help speed things up for a replacement…

try to clean the holes and if all else fails, just give a call to anker customer support cause they are real friendly and you’ll probably get your problems fixed
