New PowerPort Chargers wattage

I wanted to test the current & wattage of the PowerPort Atom III Slim, the PowerPort III mini & the PowerCore Slim 10000 PD with my new iPad Pro 11".

I got a steady +/- 18W using either of the PowerPort III chargers that’s rated at 30W. The PowerCore Slim 10000 PD was close to 18W spec. Not sure if it’s because my iPad Pro was at 72% or not.

Well, I believe that Apple usually stops the fast charging at about 80%. Maybe the iPad slows down the charging at 70% to have a step down process. But 15 V look consistent.

Can you try it when below 50% charge? Some quick googling seems to suggest that 18W is your typical charge power but that it might be higher below 50% battery. I am thinking that what you are seeing should be right. Apple is notorious for keeping a standard charge power well below industry average (whether its shady practice or not I do not care, just pointing out that their idea of quick charge is far off from others).

I think the guys above have hit the nail on the head.

I think you’re right.

I never run my iPad Pro to low numbers but I’ll try to experiment and retake these readings

So I allowed my iPad Pro 11" to drain to 40% and I plugged in both the PowerPort Atom III Slim and the PowerPort III mini individually. I got a consistent 26W at about 15V. See below @tugar32 @Monk3e

That seems more like what I would expect after seeing the link below.

It looks like after a certain percentage Apple throttles back the draw, which tbh can be beneficial in reducing heat and thermal issues over time (just like soldering components down to a board you heat up fast to liquify then allow to slowly cool off for a strong bond).

I’m not sure but is the original charger rated at 18W? If its a 30W could you take a picture to compare the readings?

For the record, I’m using a USB-C to USB-C cable

The original charger is rated at 18W but I don’t use it and never took it out of the box.

The last photo I posted is with the two Anker chargers I mentioned.
