My Eufy Lumos 2.0 Review

The folks over at Eufy sent me one of the new Lumos 2.0 light bulbs to test out, this is my unbiased review.

Packaging
The Eufy Lumos 2.0 bulbs, when compared to other similar L.E.D smart bulbs is very minimalistic. You open up the box and it’s literally just the bulb, instructions and the happy/not happy card and the cardboard that holds the bulb. Very eco friendly compared to the likes of Philips hue bulbs

Bulbs size
One of the things Eufy did this time around is they made these light bulbs smaller. It is now easier to fit the bulbs into a standard lamp and still have the ability to use the lampshade without issues… For the most part it depends on the style of the lamp and lampshade, but it should fit the majority of them based on the new shape and lower profile.
In the following pictures you can see the LUMOS 2.0 bulb is the smallest as the base is more streamlined. The Lumos 2.0 bulbs are now similar in size to the Phillips hue bulbs, with the Lumos look happenededging out slightly smaller.

Hubless
One of the highlights of the Eufy Lumos bulbs is that it is wireless, it has a stronger wifi antenna built into the base of the bulb and most importantly there is no Hub required like the Philips hue bulbs. In the picture below you can see all the bulbs again, this time the Philips hub is right above the two Philip hue bulbs… It’s an added piece of hardware that is unneeded as Eufy has proven in how they found a way to integrate everything into the bulb itself.

Ok here is the nitty gritty, I gave this bulb to my son to see if he can install it without issues. As you can see I already have the Philips bulbs, so this was different because he had to set it up. To my surprise he actually set it up and programed it to turn on when he needs wake up for school. He used the app to set everything up, which I found to be similar to other smart bulbs, with the exception that it was faster. Now I don’t have any pictures of the light in action or of the app scheduling that he set up, it is rather easy and for a non techy kid who installed this I really cannot complain.
Based on the size of the bulbs, it’s cheap price point $15.99) and ease of use,I would highly recommend everyone to at least get 1 to try and see that they too can have a smart home

Bonus Comparison
From my pictures I posted above you can see that I have 2 different types of Philip hue bulbs, the standard white and the color bulbs…I have only used the white adjustable light, and when compared to the Lumos the Hue bulbs respond much slower. I can adjust the brightness down to 50% on the hue and it takes 3 to 4 seconds to respond where as the Lumos responds within a second. I believe this is due to the routing of the Hue signal to the hub first and then to the bulb. So for that reason alone I would defiantly recommend the Lumos bulb over the Phillip hue.
I have also used a Homebright smart bulb, which in the very first picture above is the bulb that has the blue ring around the base of it. The homebright doesn’t deserve to be talked about, it failed to connect to its own app numerous times and then crashed when it did. Needless to say buy the Eufy, it not only just works but is also the cheapest and will save you money in the long run

For those interested, I will be adding a video to showcase the difference between the bulbs and of them working. I had issues with the last camera I brought, but I have a new one scheduled to come in on Tuesday, so at the very least the video will be posted by next weekend

Nice set of bulbs  will wait for the video review

I like the idea of these, never tried any brand before, but think they would be great for my kids rooms so they could have a dimmer light at night when reading and then I can turn them off without having to go up to their bedrooms!

Thanks, and as u see I have the color Philip hue bulbs too but I dont use them. I like the color options, but find the white like to be more appealing to me, I guess I’m just getting old.

I too prefer the white but my kids want the option to set colors. It will get old after a while but it will be a new toy for them. Guess they can get the disco mood lighting going to since they got the flares too
