Keeps Returning To FIV setting - Extremely Annoying !

I received the limited edition Nebula soundbar with built in 4k Firestick, which I was initially over the moon about as my previous soundbar had been playing up. Once all set up, it seemed an alright sound, but had a much nferior sound to my previous sound bar. When using if I change from my Sky box to, let’s say the Sky box tv guide for example, it automatically changes from the setting I was using, back to FIV, every time and as I am sure you can imagine is extremely annoying. If this wasn’t a gift from my children, I would have returned the sound bar a bought a Bose, for much better sound quality. What can I do to stop this happening, my wife still cannot use the bar properly as is a techno phone and sat without any sound on when I went into the front room.

Thanks for your comments.

Really sorry for disappointing you with this Nebula Soundbar.

Regarding the sound quality, know that we kept all customers’ feedback on file and evaluate them statistically. Per other customer’s feedback, it seems that most of them are pleased with this Soundbar’s sound quality considering this size and price range. You know, a perfect product requires several improvements per the customer’s voice especially when sound is often subjective and subject to one’s personal preferences. We really appreciated your feedback and endeavor to optimize it in the future to live up to our customer’s expectations.

Regarding it automatically changes from the setting you’re using, it’s the CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) agreement that causes this problem (the agreement is not yet standardized). I really appreciate you’ve brought this matter to our attention and we have documented it for future new product designing and improvement.

I apologize for any and all disappointment. All the best!

This automatic switching issue is apparently fairly common - there have been a number of people report it in Amazon comments and reviews. It seems to affect external devices, usually when a menu is opened or a playback video is selected - for us it is when selecting recordings on our PVR. I had assumed it was triggered by some form of signal switching from the external device to the TV (and then on to the soundbar).

There was a firmware update a couple of weeks ago which I hoped might have fixed it, but it hasn’t and I am not sure that it doesn’t now switch to FTV more often.

I find it hard to believe that the blame should go to the CEC agreement. It seems implausible that the agreement should say that when there is a change within the sound input for whatever reason (in this case menus being used on an external device feeding the TV) then the soundbar should switch away from the TV and active external device and take over the sound source itself!
