Just got iPhone 11 Pro my computer only has USB 2.0?

Greetings Anker,

Wanting your recommendation here. I have a MacBook Pro Late 2011 MacBookPro8,3. I love this computer, largest screen 17" Upgraded to 16gb Ram 2TB SSD. It runs FCP like a champ and can multitask extremely well, I rarely ever get the ring of death.

Anyways, it seems my only weakness is my PORTS! I’m limited to USB 2.0 it’s becoming a deal breaker to keep this computer with the extreme slow transfer speeds and what is on the market today, with external hard drives and iPhones/Ipad/ transferring ETC.

My question for you Anker is there an adapter for the Thunderbolt 1 where I could take advantage of the 10GB data transfer speeds? Like for example Thunderbolt 1TO USB C (female) TO USB-C Male to Lightening (iPhone)???

Is yours actually Thunderbolt 3?

Given you have FIREWIRE for what your ipod? I mean I’m doubting you have Thunderbolt 3 as that would be fairly new

I have Thunderbolt 3 on my Lenovo laptops T470S and T480, and able to use this cable to charge iPhone 8

Data transfer is fine as well…upto 480Mbps though

HI @Scotty_Daletas as far as I am aware Anker does not do a Thunderbolt 1 to USB-C adapter…should you be able to source one from a third party (from a quick Google search however I could not find one) you would then be able to use the cable suggested by @Shenoy for charging…

He wouldn’t be able to use that cable, he said his laptop has thunderbolt 1 port which is different by design than USB-C.

Yep this is what I’ve been looking at. Thunderbolt 1 and 2 are compatible. Thunderbolt 3 is USB-C it first came out on the Mac in 2016. My 2011 MacBook pro was the first thunderbolt 1 port in a MacBook.

It’s such a useless port. It’s got 10GB data transfer VS USB 2.0 480Mbps but none of us can make it work with ease. ohhh Apple
OWC created a data hub for a little while for 1 and 2 thunderbolt port. It’s got USB 3.0 which would be an upgrade from USB 2.0 but for the price. It’s getting to be that time to just get a new computer and switch everything to USB-C

Holy crap, that’s one expensive dock, even if you could find one :expressionless:

I have a MBP Late 2011, but the 13-inch model…It’s still my daily driver (1TB SSD, 1TB HDD in the optical bay, 8GB ram, blah, blah) and I agree that both the Firewire 800 and the Thunderbolt 1 ports are basically useless, especially in this day and age. Good luck finding something (even at OWC) and let us know what you finally end up doing.

You’ll end up with USB 3.0 & eSATA ports from the Thunderbolt (1) port on the MacBook.

Be sure and read through all the reviews…some state that the device doesn’t work under Yosemite specifically. I didn’t read far enough into it see if it was resolved or is compatible with a later OS…like High Sierra (the last OS the Late 2011 can run).

EDIT 2: Sounds also like you’ll need a powered USB 3.0 hub to use higher-draw devices (external HDDs etc).

If this works for you, report back with your results as I may be interested myself.
