I always enjoy these tear-downs @Tank but i can’t help but wince at the same time.
Great share.

Nice share… I do like and hate the tear downs at the same time. I like to see the insides but hate the potential destruction as well. I will say the cost of giving it to be torn down was way beneficial to get 966k worth of views.

You can see all the cooling hardware in this 400 ANSI, extra over that needed for the 200 Ansi Capsule II.

All this cooling is due to the current inefficiency of the technology. No criticism of Nebula but projectors feel now how phones were 15 years ago, a lot of compromises until the electronics evolved.

This one is based on DLP which is modulating mirrors, probably tilted to a LED.

Yea I have seen the teardown of an Epsom 4k projector and that cooling was massive, it looks like the V8 cooler thats available for computers…size wise anyway.
But yea the more Ansi lumens it outputs the greater the heat and thats whether it uses LED’s or not as the brighter the LED gets the more heat it also outputs

So the fans need to be kept always very clean.
We took really care of these at the university to avoid any switch off while a performance.
And the cleaning had to be done very often. Always full of dust.
We used those big EPSONS there.

In the teardown the fans over the heat exchanger (fins) made hot from the coolant pumped from the back of the LED and DLP.

That should be highly resistant to debris, you basically should be able to tap and shake debris out of well past warranty and then dismantle to give a refreshing clean.

The technology at the LED is where the innovation is needed, I’ve been seeing 30% efficiency if I read it correctly, meaning for every 1 Watt as visible light 2 W as heat.

Again, not critical of Nebula.

I remember those EPSONs were easy to clean.
They know about that probs very well.
The filter part could be removed easily and cleaned.
I dont know if thats the same with that NEBULA.

I love his videos :+1:

Great video, cool to see the inner workings. Helps to understand a lot about the projector.

You reckon?

Not that much of a teardown, he doesn’t take the projector part apart, only shows speakers and cooling, not the LCD, not the DLP

I could do a “teardown” of roasted pork and Knödel!

Rigging of a rigged video! Cool to see both!
