iPhone 7 New Home Button

What are your thoughts and opinions of the new home button on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus?

I don’t like it. It just doesn’t feel the same as pressing a button. I think Apple was lazy to not include a real button. They just didn’t want to have to waterproof it.

they removed it so they can put it back in the next one and extract $1000 from you (again)

I haven’t tried it, but from what I’ve read it makes sense, I imagine they did it because the home button is one of the most used, and thus most likely to fail first in iPhones. As long as the solid state part of it works for the life of the phone, I’m down for it! The way the home button works for iPhone 6 and earlier is a drag … click once to turn it on, click again to go to the Home area, so on. It’s tiring! … hehe, listen to me, complaining about something so simple. But the mechanical home buttons failing, that can be a nightmare.

Supposedly it will be gone all together next gen. It will be incorporated into the screen anywhere on the screen for that matter. SUPPOSEDLY.

Doesn’t feel like an actual button. I think this is just a transition to what is coming in the future.

I didn’t like it at first but I like the feedback the phone gives you.

I didn’t like it when I first got it, and still, don’t. But in an odd way I’m glad they did it. The waterproofing is great, but I also have a bigger problem with physical buttons. It has been a while, but older Apple home buttons have broken on me before due to moving parts wearing down. This is a solid state button so much less can realistically go wrong. If any change makes the phone more durable, I’m all for it.

So are they going to add the headphone jack back in the iPhone 8 after everyone has bought wireless headphones? LOL

If you want to know the future of iPhone, just look at Android a year or two back

Or four years for Swype style keyboards.

There’s the faintest hint of a schism in Android community with Google who championed it (buying from Motorola then pushing with Nexus line) now asking stupid pricing (what a Apple person person would call “fair”). That means the community is more drifting down into a self-support model with lower cost phones and relying on community support. That is leading to a mix of forking of features. Efforts like CM and Pure Nexus try to keep this back down to a fewer number of builds on many handsets.

I just this week went back to a $130 5" phone with a $20 64GB SD card so my $400 phone is then my spare.

With the Brexit effect on pricing, Apple has to erode margins (about 200%-300% judging by teardowns) or the UK folks have to pay more or they can look down in lower cost phones. I predicted Brexit and the exchange rate drop so I encourage all my UK contacts to buy early before the inflation.

I’ve the 7+ an it does feel weird I’m still not use to it 3 weeks later, it’s nothing like an actual button feel, I’ve it on setting 2 an meh I liked the button more an its weird when the phone dies an you try to unlock an it does nothing unlike a button you’d still feel it move.
