I'm in the market for a Windows laptop. Any suggestions?

I want to buy a new laptop, windows system, for work&entertainment use, budget $1,000.

Anyone has a good suggestion?

Always found Toshiba and Fujitsu’s to be solid brands. Being UK based can’t really give good insight on best price for specs for US laptop’s but I would recommend the following;

  • 8GB or more of RAM
  • SSD hard drive (this alone can make or break a decent spec)
  • Intel processor, quad core especially.

Hi Ireneivia,

Here are some things to consider that’ll significantly influence the price:

  • What size are you looking for? (13", 15", or 17")
  • Do you need a resolution of 1920x1080 or are you fine with 1366x768?
  • How much storage space do you need? (500GB, 1TB, 2TB)
  • Do you need a Solid State Drive?
  • Do you have any preferences for processor and video card? (Intel vs AMD, Nvidia vs AMD)

If you list out the features you want, some of us here might possibly be able to give you better suggestions. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Thanks Avexius,

I prefer: 15", 1080P, and yes I need a Solid State Drive. BTW I don’t play games.

Check out Dell’s XPS 13. It’s a pretty neat laptop.

Nice! Thanks.

I purchased an XPS 13 for my boss and it is a very nice machine. IMO the great screen and smaller footprint offset it not being 15", but your mileage may vary on that. The specs are terrific and the price is pretty reasonable. Possibly worth waiting to see what happens on Black Friday at this point, if you can hold out.

It amazes me how many laptops still come with mechanical hard drives.

I swear by ASUS ROG laptops. But I’m also a gamer… so… It entirely depends on what you want to do.
