I’ve got something that’s really bothering me right now and I can’t mentally get it out of my head, I feel like I’m wavering between 50-75% close to getting it out there, it’s only been a day or two but of course it gets to me. When I broke up with my first girlfriend in highschool I was devastated for almost a year, pathetic I know! I played Halo 2 for hours at a time and called my friends, EVENTUALLY I got out of it but it took all that Halo therapy to get over it! What do you guys do to help you get over something getting at you?
How to get your mind off of things?
Music, exercise and kickboxing (with a heavy bag). Failing that alcohol can also help numb the pain
No, in seriousness, I just try to put my mind on other things until the original is pushed back enough that I can just think, what the hell was I getting worked up for in the first place…
You’re absolutely right! I do have other things that need to be done around the house, hopefully the original issue will resolve itself, I won’t really know anyway, it’s out of my control at this point, just hoping another issue doesn’t take its place!
Find a hobby that you really enjoy, one that challenges your mind and in turn gets your mind off things bothering you. I like to destress by going to the range and I also build my own AR-15s (hopefully theres no anti gun people on here) I am also an avid hunter that really helps get your mind off things. Just some food for thought. As for alcohol ehhh I see too many lives ruined from alcohol and to me its not worth it, but whatever works for you I guess is good in moderation of course.
For me, immersing myself in a good RPG game. Or a good book(s).
Depending on what is bothering me, going out for a walk or a cycle can help. Other times a walk give me too much time to think about it. This is where cycling is better, keeps you more focused
Going through the family drama right now with the holidays. Best thing for me is just keeping myself busy and being around positive people. It helps keep your mind off it.
It’s all about perspective. If it’s it money, be smart and make a plan. If it’s lady drama, we’ve all got it so don’t fret. If it’s politi, write to your congressman. If they don’t work, pray and go to church. If all else fails, grab a rocks glass and pour some bourbon.
Cheers!.
Q
Now that’s a way, but minus the rocks
Agreed! Rocks glass, sans rocks!
Thank goodness for this 4 day weekend! Thanksgiving, cleaning out my garage (minus crazy lady literally digging through my trash on the curb, it’s now all been picked up and put BACK into the garage til garbage day), and woodworking has really helped a ton! I made a couple cellphone holders out of 2x4 wood, it’s freaking awesome and might make a good Christmas gift for the friends and family! Problem I’m running into is the size of everyone’s phones! I started with making one for me but I gave it to my friend who has an S5 and a case so I just made some tweaks and it works great!
Got any pictures? Would love to see!
It’s a 2x4 cut I had left over from a workbench I’m working on. Yeah it’s a prototype, and the original I made and gave to my friend was much better but it’s functional! I’m thinking of drilling a hole in the back to hold a writing pen, unsure. But I really like it! I’ve seen some out there where holes are drilled to allow a charging cable to go through but I don’t want that, I just wanted something to hold my phone up. You can also hold it in portrait mode as well, but it works better for landscape.
You can probably see on the back that I was messing around with making notches with the miter and sanding it down some to give it some sort of curve. I don’t have a band saw but that would work GREAT for this because I’m having trouble keeping everything balanced and even without it.
That smells like Merica all the way! No need for a fancy phone holder, I like!
That is sweet, my brother! Definitely a great starting point. You could even drill a hole for the USB cable to help with cable management.
Can you make it with wireless charging? Lol. Cheers!!
Work towards something you’ve been putting off for a while. Like maybe fixing something. Visiting a friend. Anything out of your regular routine should keep your mind going.
Music. Metal music. Specifically, August Burns Red. Exercise helps as well. Also, just try to get your mind off of stuff by doing an activity you enjoy.
So I think it’s been about a week since the incident. I just installed a ceiling fan a couple days ago, it’s a 3 blade fan and controlled by remote. I don’t know about you but I hate those remotes. So I bypassed the light button on the remote and used the original light switch wire so I can continue to use the switch on the wall, and when you hit fan switch it reverts to the last setting you made on the remote, sweet! And I talked my wife into returning the $150 glittery Christmas tree and getting a couple 4 foot ones for $30 so she could have a used MacBook Pro and my son’s class could have a tree. Also helped return a debit card that fell into my tool bag while I was working; the lady was extremely grateful, but those plastic cards are important! How it fell into my bag I really don’t know. So that was like some karma test to ensure the path I’m going will remain positive, right? Anyway, I feel like I’m 95% over the incident that started this thread. What happened is not my problem anymore so like I said I have no control over it, I can’t change it and that’s OK!
