Home Office - Need Help!

Due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), I, like many of you am confined to my home while still having to work.

Current setup:
Lenovo ThinkPad T480
Planar pxn2480mw (x2)

I am using the Anker Premium USB-C Hub( Circa 2017), plugging in my USB-C Power cable and an HDMI to monitor 1.

When I connect another monitor using the HDMI port, the monitor attached to the hub stops working?

I’m not a huge techie, but I felt pretty confident that this would work as I’ve gotten this to work on my wife’s work Dell Laptop.

I wanted to check with the smartest people I know before I buy another docking station or something… Is there something I’m missing? Is the hub too old? Better tech out there? Computer limitations? EEEEEKKKKKKKKK!

Thanks in Adavance!

Lenovo Thinpad T480 has 2 USB-C ports…

  • 1 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C (Power Delivery, DisplayPort, Data transfer)
  • 1 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C / Intel Thunderbolt 3 (Power Delivery, DisplayPort, Data transfer)
  • Also a HDMI

Can you confirm you have 2 USB-C ports on your model and HDMI

To which USB-C port are you connecting the USB-C hub? Try connecting to the other USB-C port or the one / USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C which supports the DisplayPort for the monitor HDMI.

Also, why not simply skip the USB-C and connect the monitor to the HDMI port directly

Try connecting

So you are wanting to run x1 monitor using the HDMI on the hub and then another monitor direct on the laptop via HDMI…if I’m reading correctly?

What do you see under your display panel settings when both are connected and is the monitor connected to the hub losing signal or perhaps jumping to extended desktop (hence checking the displays panel in Windows to see how many you have listed)?

Excellent advice from @Shenoy and @ndalby

I doubt this is your hub choice, probably windows 10. Guide below to go and check Windows is seeing all the monitors and enabling all the monitors.

Who knew that the 2nd USB C port was better than the first - it worked and everything is working great - thanks so much @Shenoy!
