Facebook and Google could be forced to tell you how much your data is worth under new US legislation

We all know that the big tech companies are extracting and storing our data. But what would yours be worth?

Anker, what do you think my data is worth here? Or do I owe you some money?

As you are here voluntarily this is not a real question.

I think it was a joke… :joy:.

I don’t use Facebook, but I’m interested to see what google thinks my data is worth…

Gonna be honest, I really like this feature.

Also the one that allows me to upload multiple photos at once. And they upload way faster!

Zero for Anker as their data is used for themselves. Now Facebook and Google are using our data to sell it to other companies. Why should we not benefit from this as well. I could use a little extra if they want to sell that data for use for political or my buying activities.

These services are free. Many of these so called free services have a catch. Usually somewhere in the fine print of the terms of use agreement it will say they will share your usuage, information, and whatever they feel like to their “partners” and of course all everyone just clicks agrees without reading.

Our data may be worth something but we agree to give it to them in order to use their services. So they wont have to pay us.

It would be nice that shared the wealth they earned from us…

As to knowing what’s my data worth, a waste or time bill the government is working on. There’s others areas they can be focusing on. Besides knowing how much they make off me would be annoying

It is very important to protect the privacy and data of users. Our company has very strict internal control requirements for this. Disclosure of user data also violates the GDPR Act.:policeman:

When some service is free, we are the products!!

That is whats been happening, used free gmail for 10 years… now google knows all Our buying habits

It will be interesting to see how these companies will provide this evaluation

Who ever thinks Mr. Zuckerzwerg (sic) or Gockel (sic) offers something without profits may believe in St. Claus.

Invaluable.

It all seems very benign right now but 10-20 years down the road if this information falls into the wrong hands who knows what could happen.

Cool to think this info could be used to reconstruct our personalities Matrix style (if it hasn’t been already) one day.
