[eufy cam] App is spaming my mobile phone with senseless and unwanted data from a doorbell i do not even have/use/own!

Dear @AnkerOfficial @AnkerTechnical @AnkerSupport

May someone explain me plausible, why the eufy cam app recently created a new folder on my mobile phone called “eufy”, which contains the also new folder “doorbell”, which contains several new folders which got spamed with tons of log files?! :scream:

Except the fact that i hate if apps are spaming my cellphone and wasting space and create useless folders, it even gets re-created after i deleted it! … And the even more interesting fact:

I do not have, i do not own, i do not use and probably will never ever a eufy DOORBELL!

Now i am curious about the answer

Weird. Commented to see the answer too

@yamyam could you confirm the space/memory used by these folders?
It might be just place holders for all eufy products to organize the data if user has any of those products, and just blank folders created for that purpose.
Unfortunately, I cannot go to file explorer to confirm as I use an iPhone.

Remember: I have KILLED / DELETED this mysterious folder this morning, about 9 hours ago and it is creating itself directly new … and now see how the app and /eufy/doorbell/…

spams my cellphone just for the last 9 hours: :scream:

:information_source: when it comes to internal space/eufy/doorbell/app/…

:information_source: when it comes to internal space/eufy/doorbell/mqtt/…

:information_source: when it comes to internal space/eufy/doorbell/p2p/…

Maths for Beginners

  • These are 27 files spamed on my cellphone in just about 9 hours!
  • 27:9 = 3 files per hour in average
  • A year got 8760 hours … 8760x3 means extrapolated:

26280 files per year! :scream:

Some may now argue that those are just small log files. Sure … BUT:

  1. I DO NOT use any DOORBELL (!)
  2. I DO NOT LIKE any mysteriously created folders (!)
  3. I DO NOT WANT 26280 useless “doorbell files” on my internal space of my cellphone (!)

not going to lie, that mqtt folder makes me excited for the doorbell.

Is strange the behavior your having.

What happens if you delete the app?

You are funny … what will happen then … i can’t start it anymore and can’t watch my recorded videos or access my live feeds :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Joking aside:
Beside the fact that i do not want to uninstall the app to test it, as i would have to configure and check everything from the beginning and newly … this folder and filespam just shgould not be existant, no matter if app installed or not. Even if i WOULD HAVE a doorbell, what i don’t … it shouldn’t spam my smartphone! Thats my opinion.

Maybe an idiot.close by is chosi g your phone by mistake, not realising it.

Then via hub, has connected your phone, and hence the folders.

Do you keep your Bluetooth on n searchable?
If so, turn THAT off, and then uninstall.the files.

See if that works, as that’s all I.can think.of.

i checked and i have the folders too. But I don’t have a large number of files in the folders like you are showing.

Looking at the files in my phone it looks like they are debugging logs. Looks like someone maybe forgot to turn off a setting… lol

No! … Bluetooth, GPS and even mobile internet ois turned off when i am at home respectively only turned on when i really need it!

Wait some time and check the amount again.

However, this folder is kinda NEW as it hasn’t be there, never existed before … so this “behaviour” started with one the the two or three last updates i guess.
