Homekit is has been underestimated for a long time. I hate when I buy a smart device that is not Homekit compatible. Is nice to control every device from one single screen.

I’ve been using smart devices for about 5 years now. Lights, Nest, Ring, Canary, Chromecast, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I love that I can turn lights on/off with voice as well as use voice to turn tv on/off and change channels. Nest & Ring are convenient, but we barely make use of them.

The biggest challenge with smart devices is controlling all of it in one place. I hate that I have to install a new app for every brand of smart device that I buy. I recently bought a smart plug because it had a built-in timer, but to use it, I had to install that company’s app, then connect it to Alexa and Google Home. What a pain! This is where HomeKit excels … I think that’s what the article is saying. If it truly does, then I can see how it would be a good platform. I don’t use HomeKit because too many of my devices are not HomeKit compatible.

That’s the biggest challenge for me too…
Most smart home gadgets compatible with Alexa are also available on Google Home, so at least that saved me using both these.
I still use Homekit for some that do not support Google or Alexa… Hope one day everybody uses same security services and if a smart gadget works on one, it should work on others too…

Ugh the HomePod is on sale at Best Buy for $199.
Almost want to get one just to tinker with it.
