Anker SoundBuds Curve switches audio source (app) instead of pausing

I just purchased a set of Anker SoundBuds Curve earbuds and tried them out for the first time today. The sound quality is great, and they seem to block out surrounding noise wonderfully for my needs. The only issue I’ve run into is this:

While I was testing them with my Motorola Z4, I started up Google Play Music to listen to one of my playlists. Everything seemed to be going fine until I tried to pause the music by pressing the play/pause button, at which point it switched my audio source from Play Music to Audible and started playing the audiobook I had paused in the background.

I pressed the play/pause button again, and it paused the audiobook. Pressing the play/pause button a third time resumed the audiobook. In order to get back to my music, I had to go back to my phone, open up Play Music, and start the playlist again. The “switch” was apparently one-way.

I’m not sure whether this is an “issue” with the earbuds or the way my phone wants to behave, but I figured I’d post here and see if anyone else had encountered this. I’d prefer it simply play/pause the audio source (app) I was listening to rather than try to “guess” which one I want.

We are sorry to hear your headphones are not working properly. According to the information you described, the issue you are experiencing is very unusual. Please try the following steps to see if it helps at all.

Please also try to close the Apps (audiobook) not using on your device.

  • “Forget” the headphones in your device’s Bluetooth history
  • Reset the earbuds by pressing and holding both volume buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds.
  • Try pairing it with another device

If the issue still persists, don’t worry, please don’t hesitate to contact us at support@anker.com by detailing your order number and the problem you come across. We will reply you within 24 hours.

Thank you, @AnkerSupport! I went through the steps of re-pairing the earbuds with my phone (not another device) and tried again after closing Audible and “swiping” it from the recent app history. Once it was re-paired and connected, I started listening to some music on Google Play and was successfully able to just pause the music without switching to any other app.

Just to test further - because I usually listen to my audiobooks while I’m driving and music when I’m doing something “noisy” like mowing the lawn - I started up Audible and listened to my current book for a little while, then changed back over to Google Play without closing Audible. I listened for a little while before trying to pause again. I also went through testing the other functions (volume up/down & skip tracks) It all seems to be working correctly now, but I’ll keep an eye on it. Hopefully the re-pairing is all it took.
