Anker Power Core 20100 Charging Duration and Speed

Hi, I’m from the Philippines, I recently bought a Anker Power Core 20100. When I charge it using my Samsung Travel Adapter, having an Input of 100 - 240V, 0.35 A and an output of 5.0V, 2.0 A, which I use to charge in all of my gadgets. When I charge it, let’s say 9 pm, the next day the last LED light is still blinking after 10 to 12 hours of charging. This is my first Power Bank, so when I saw that happened, I thought its normal and its fully charged. Every time I charge the Power Bank at night and when I woke up the next day, I see the last LED light blinking, I thought its full charged and ready for use.

But when I did my research, the Lights should shut off if its fully charged, I got anxious that I’ve been charging and using it wrong. From my research, the reason it takes a long time to fully charge is because the wall adapter, the current flow in the etc. Here in the Philippines, all outlets give off 220 - 240V, so I don’t see the problem there.

Based from what I experience with my Power Bank. Is it alright to use the Power bank even if its not Fully Charged like that, the last LED Light still blinking? Is it appropriate to use that Adapter for the Power Bank based from the specifications indicated above? If not, What do you guys recommend? Thank You!

Hi @John_Michael_Ibarrol,
The 5.0V 2.0A output of your charger is OK for the PowerCore 20100. This power bank takes about 12 hours to recharge even at 2.0A, so it is normal for the last LED to be flashing after charging overnight. It is also fine to use the PowerCore even if it is not fully charged. Ideally, you do not want to let the battery drain all the way to 0% for extended periods of times. Therefore, if you can only charge the battery for a few hours at a time, that is OK as it keeps the electrons moving in the battery.

Thank You for your response. Actually, after 12 hours of charging still the Power bank is not fully charged, the last LED keeps blinking. I don’t know if there’s something wrong with the electric supply in my home, the adapter or the power bank itself. Just to clarify, when the power bank is over changed, will it affect the over all performance of the Power Bank? or Does this Power bank can be faulty when its over charged? How long does the Power Bank last if its not used but full charge?

Hello again, another question. If I keep doing using the Power bank like that, Unplugging it not fully charged last LED blinking, will somehow affect the Power bank in some way in the future?

Your battery bank will not overcharge so you can actually leave it plugged in until it is fully charged without issues. You can also use it half charged as you see fit without any I’ll effects…aside from having spent the money on a larger battery bank than you need or use.

I would try to use a different cable and charge the unit up as it could be an issue with the cable itself preventing a proper charge.

As @elmo41683 mentioned, the power bank will stop charging once full to prevent overcharging. So you do not need to worry about overcharging. Also, using the power bank before it is fully charge will not cause a problem as these battery cells do not have the “memory effect” you may see mentioned elsewhere.
The power supply may not be providing a full 2 amps, so perhaps charging is taking longer than 12 hours because of that. Another charger and/or cable may help.
The power bank can typically hold its charge for 2-4 months if not used.

As @elmo41683 and @TechnicallyWell mentioned, I would like to suggest you change a different cable and adapter for a try, if the power bank still can’t fully charged, you can contact support@anker.com, we will help you sort out the problem.:innocent:

Hi @Jeann_Robles,
It would be better to charge it first rather than drain it all the way. In general, lithium ion batteries will last longer if you charge them frequently (but don’t leave them on the charger for long periods of time). Also, don’t drain the battery to 0% often. They don’t have the “memory effect” you may of heard of it, so you can charge your PowerCore at any time. If you plan on storing the battery for a month or longer, try to leave the battery at about a 50-75% charge to prolong battery life in storage. Enjoy your new PowerCore!
