Stop me from pulling my hair out!
I was using a USB 2 3-port hub on a MS Surface with a wireless mouse dongle and a 3.0 thumb drive plugged in. I just purchased an Anker 4-port Ultra Slim USB 3.0 Data Hub and if I have the wireless mouse alone plugged in everything is fine. If I plug in the thumb drive additionally and go to access the the mouse the mouse freezes freezes. When the thumb drive is idle the mouse works.

Unfortunately, the USB 3.0 standard operates on the same frequency as many wireless mice. So when the USB 3.0 port is in use, it’s probably interrupting the mouse’s signal.
I’ve encountered this issue myself and found that plugging the mouse dongle in to a USB 2.0 extension cable (for example: https://www.amazon.com/6in-USB-Extension-Adapter-Cable/dp/B000E5CYW8/) can help with this issue.
