What phone to get

A phone is considered old and outdated after 2 years, which is the typical life cycle of android phones being supported by any manufacturer. It has been this way since forever

That’s crap. Apple supports their phones longer than that. My wife’s old iPhone 5 was supported up until September 2017 and that’s a phone that was released in 2017. Even my older iPad 2 and old iPhone 4 (backup) still work well but very slow. Where as my old android devices won’t even load the basic apps after 4 or 5 years.

As much I like android and the options available but I’m switching back to iPhone.

To each their own, like I said android has always been that way with the manufacturer only supporting phones for so long. Personally I prefer android because I like to customize my device and also do not like being tied down to just crappies services

Exactly the software updates just slow it down anyways. Phones are meant to run the OS they ship with.

Some phones are so popular that the after-market battery replacement and common failed components are readily cheaply available. I made a phone run “as new” for 5 years til it died and not worth another repair.

Problem with Apple is shear poor value for money. While that also translates into higher used value, the phone has to last long. Next worse value is probably Samsung. The likes of Moto, OnePlus, Xaimi, etc can offer much better value.

This is one advantage of Android, based on Linux, opensource - Google release soon after they release their own version an opensource version - Android Open Source Project - AOSP. The custom ROM community, dominated in XDA forums, produces a very long term excellent free support method. I have a 4 year old tablet running the current shipping Android, and it is minimalist, I handle the bloatware problem by a minimum ROM and install just the apps I need and it performs extremely well.

Old code can have old security holes is one argument to avoid old code, and competes with the opposite than new code as new bugs, so jumping to a ROM at say version 3 is a good approach.

Typed on the Linux based Chromebook.

I agree about the phones, hence why I have a Moto x pure edition
