Yay!!! Movie night is back on!
Nebula Portable Projector
I am sooooo STOKED. I can not wait till it arrives for the second time lol.
Any updates?
I think he finally got it and is holed up at home, hogging it up and binging on Netflix . We may never get our Movie Night invite. LOL…
If only… lol
Do you have the replacement yet?
Looking forward to your review.
I got my projector from Amazon yesterday and will keep it. I would not use it for stationary use, since you can get higher quality HD and luminance for the same price. But it is a very nicely done unit for portable use. Take it outside in the evening and watch on the patio or by the pool or take it along to friends for a movie or video game.
The hardware industrial design and execution are first rate and so it the packaging.
But… the software must be pre-alpha. It is Android based, so this should not be that hard. Apps stutter and display at partial resolution even with a good WiFi connection. AirPlay does not work. After updating it does not even show. I am not into Android, so I am not sure about Chrome mirroring.
Luckily you can plug in an Amazon FireStick! I would highly recommended it! It can be powered by the USB port. With it you get well developed apps for a large range of providers with solid performance. It really shows off what this projector can do. I just ordered the upgraded latest version for 40 bucks to preface my older one. With it, you get Alexa search of material across apps. It will be a long time, before Nebula gets that far.
I finally resorted to just plugging in my iPhone with a Lighting to HDMI adapter for iTunes protected movies. This avoids need power for my spare AppleTV by the pool.
It would be interesting to know the real lumen output. The manual indicated 500 ANSI lumens, but ads and web site claim 2000 lumens as well as 3000. What is it really? Or is this reflective of the various power settings on the device?
Base on my experience Airplay currently is not working.
Thanks for the review.
I placed this product more in the revolutionary side than the evolutionary side, therefore given its $500 price, the 3rd version rule applies.
Does it show ability to Wifi update itself? The only manual I can find is the old FCC one, I cannot see it on official site.
LOL. @nigelhealy I don’t know about them sub-woofers, they’re a bit on the small side.
And $600 regular price!
Yeah I know that, but Anker often provides discounts of the order of 20% so unless you’re suddenly made aware of it and can’t wait you need never pay full price. Like the Powerhouse I don’t think there’s been more than 2 months pass without a discount. The current Powerhouse is version 2, they took feedback about the display from the original, within a few months (I think v2 was 4 months later). Same with Nebula Mars, I expect the brave early adopters will find the big initial issues, v2 will be better, then the lesser issues addressed in v3. Then there will be a discount for v3. That whole wait is likely 6 months. Most likely is a tweak of brightness up or size down and bigger battery. If its USP is portable projects on big far surface then that calls for brightness up (if it needs) or size down (if its bright enough) and a longer battery life.
Very true, but 3 versions will take longer than 6 months
PowerHouse is still on V2 and it’s been a year and a half.
Nope… still waiting
This is a supply and demand problem. I think USB-PD laptops will pull a demand which a pocketable portable charger cannot safely meet.
Then there is the obvious gap in products which limit demand, like the Powerhouse is so physically heavy it calls for car-camping and it was not designed to be recharged by a car, then its for long off-grid near-car situations and it would be better with a solar charger option (I think unregulated to lower cost) so if they put that lot together it would pull a lot more demand and cause innovation.
Powerhouse, and the Nebular Mars also have a future together, one lets you have lots of power off-grid camping and the other gives you something to use all of that power. Currently they are significantly incompatible apart from the AC, but I’m sure a future USB-PD input Nebula can benefit from a future USB-PD output Powercore.
Do you get your tracking number for delivery?
You need the soon to be released AirPin Pro app update for AirPlay to work with iOS11. AirPin is bundled with the Mars. I got it from the author (I bought it for Amazon Firestick TV) and it works. None of the non Apple solutions will ever work for legal software, which is not allowed to include Apple’s FairPlay DRM. Not sure, there is an APK with a crack out there.
How about now?
