Coffee, what is your favorite?

See I knew that, dunno why it slipped my mind. I recently had a good at the world’s strongest coffee, it was bad very bad. The beans tasted like it was burnt or overcooked for days. However they did redeem themselves with a new batch that was the best cup of joe I ever had.

What happened according to them was that the oil was backed out of the beans too much hence the burnt taste. But on the dialback it tasted better the second cup around. I want to buy some to brew at home but I can never catch it when it’s in stock. But if your interested look up “Black Insomnia”

I used this kind of percolator as well.

Italian: Alfonso Bialetti was the inventor as far I know.

Works great with a gas stove, which I have not anymore here in our kitchen. :disappointed:

Have you ever heard about those beans which need to be digested by cats. (Kopi Luwak)
This must be a special one!

Theres a few odd ones here.

OOOooOOOOooooOOh :coffee:!!! I love me some Coffee!

I was not satisfied with my Mr Coffee, so I started making cold brew.

First I grind my own beans using a Cuisinart DBM-8, I don’t know if the grinder is that important, but getting fresh cut beans is the best! Use a Burr Grinder too!

I bought myself a Toddy Cold Brew System. I use a 4 cup Coarse coffee to 7 cups Cold Water. Brew for about 18-24 hours. I then reuse the grounds once filtered and use another 7 cups for about 36-48 hours. Then use the grounds in our garden

I just got an Aeropress for Christmas, and I’ve probably used it 3 times a day. I love the ritual, the instant gratification of making your own coffee.

I also got a Bodum Pour over set, but haven’t used it yet.

I also heard about those beans that have been digested by monkeys then pooped out and then collected for your brewing pleasure. It makes me want to vomit!

I’m a tea person myself, even if I come from a mostly coffee-drinking country. My relationship with coffee is one where I very much enjoy the smell of freshly-made coffee but simply can’t bring myself to drink it.

Once, while studying at a muslim classmate’s home, her mother insisted we stayed for coffee, which she made their traditional way: no filter, just boiling water with coffee grinds and cocoa seeds, then directly into the cups - don’t even try to mention sugar or cream. Very very strong, but somehow more enjoyable than many espressos and filtered I’ve tried over the years.

I have friends who swear by Nespresso machines, not only for the convenience but for the taste also - the fact that it’s terrible for the environment and more expensive for them doesn’t seem to bother. My parents use a stovetop Italian espresso machine like this:

Here’s an interesting video on a few of the many coffee drinks:

Coffee

Someone mention coffee?

My veins flow with coffee. At home I use a French press (cafetiere), never tried a stove top. Can’t be arsed with a perculator (or gurggle gurggle cold coffee), and think the pods are crap… Over priced and such tiny amount of coffee… What’s the point?

I love Ethiopian, Rwandan, Kenyan coffee particularly. Brazilian is ok, but prefer the others.

Never had squirrel shit coffee (or whatever it’s called).

On my walking frame, I have a cup holder and a Darth Vader thermocup. I’ve recently found a place in town, that (claims) sells 2 day old roasted coffee. Not sure their blend, but it’s quite a nice cuppa.

I’ve started to drink more tea at home… Not sure why, but recently I stopped having coffee at home n just having while out. Having said that… The last couple days, I’ve gone back to just an instant at home (all that hassle of cleaning for one cup just ain’t worth it!

This is the Alfonso Bialetti I was talking about.
But as you are a Brasileiro, you might like Mate as well.

Referring to Kopi Luwak?

Stove top Moka pots give a good cup but you need to have the temp right otherwise it can taste burned…

Thats’s AWESOME! I forgot about that movie!

Coffee Ground/Bean Brands I brew at home with a French Press:
Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks

I also occasionally brew Cafe Du Monde with the traditional Vietnamese Coffee filter with condensed milk, it just gets too time consuming.

Coffee Shops:
For some reason, the drip coffee in Seattle is amazing. I’m not sure if its how they make it or the weather… but Seattle has some of the best coffee I have tried. I also just came back from a trip to Colombia, their coffee is also pretty damn good.

Starbucks:
Iced coffee, splash of half&half, vanilla sweeter.
or Iced quad espresso with white chocolate sauce. (tastes like Vietnamese Ice Coffee)

Growing up I used to drink Folger’s Instant coffee, plain sugar, & powdered creamer. That’s what my parents raised me on lol.

My father still drinks that crap. I drank a cup when I went up to visit them and I can attest it is probably the worst coffee in the world.

Made ya laugh tho didn’t it

I like Whole Foods brand. My favorite kind of brew is French press. It brings out the most flavor of every brew.

The last year I was on Clooney Capsules. But now I changed to real espresso. Hand made.

Here you see my coffee brewery equipment.
The coffee grinder you see on the right is a hand grinder. I added an electric drive, 12 V gear motor. This would be a nice part to be powered by a power bank.

I also started with the capsules. Then I got a bargain used Saeco Aroma Nero. With its pressurized portafilter, it is a perfect starter machine for coffee from ground beans.

In the meantime i switched from the Saeco to a Lelit. With such a machine, you need a coffee grinder - or do you say Mill ? to grind the beans in the correct way.

In Germany, young people, especially girls, buy this product only to make a selfie with the cup and its logo. Taste is of no importance.

And now S.B wants to sell espresso ! A real espresso is about 25 cl, that is very few but concentrated liquid. Now put this “drop” into a big cup. It will cover just the bottom. I did not try to taste it. Up to now I did not enter such a shop, so I can not tell how it tastes. Maybe one of you espresso specialists did try it ?

Do you use ready ground coffee ? Or do you ground the beans yourself ?
