I really think the future will just be robots driving us and we’re staring at our phones.

The pace of robotic cars is faster than human driver safety assist, as we pivot from “do you really want to do that?” into “you’re not doing that!”.

Like a lot of tech which does not directly modify DNA, it will move from impossible to possible but bad, then better, then optional then finally mandatory.
