Robovac has hard time finding home

I’m brand new to the Robovac having only used it twice.
How does the vac find home? IR signal? Bluetooth or similar connection?GPS?Does it remember where it’s been and therefore knows where home is? It seems that when we hit the HOME button, it kind of dithers around semi randomly, often going back over the same wrong direction several/many times. The further from the base, the worse this is.

Same experience here. Not only can it not return to home, but it goes over one area way more than others. Not smart. Thinking about returning it. I’m puzzled how it has a 4.5 star rating.
